Holiday Inn Express & Suites Merrillville by IHG

The hotel was well kept, including the stairwells, and the room, bed, and towels were clean. What stood out most was front desk staff member Ms. Leiyahna. She was professional and composed, patient, informative, and attentive to details. She took the time to sort out an issue for me, and her careful work gave me the peace of mind I expect when booking an IHG property. The hotel has Ms. Leiyahna to thank for her outstanding service.

My family and I stayed over Labor Day weekend in 2025. At breakfast, the food was fresh, hot, and pretty tasty. The pancake machine didn't work properly all weekend, though, and there was only one staff member. Tatiana did her best to make sure guests had what they needed, and she served great food with a wonderful attitude and great service. In my room, the tub drained so slowly that we had to wait a while before the next person could shower. In my cousin's room, we saw a roach climbing up the refrigerator. Staff came up, disinfected the area, and cleaned the room again.

The staff were polite and my room was clean. A couple things didn't work for me: the room's water machine was broken, and the gym's dumbbells start at 30 pounds. The rack looks as if it used to have weights from 5 to 25 pounds, but they're gone.

Parking was such a problem that we had to leave the car at another hotel, with tractor trailers taking up the lot here. Our room had two beds and a couch, but no bedding for the couch. I called twice for linens and was still waiting as I wrote this; someone eventually knocked and brought a blanket, keeping all three of us up. The room phone was broken and falling apart when we tried to call, and the luggage dolly was broken too. I'm tired and cranky writing this, but parking and linens should be basic.
