Prime Hotel

The bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on, and I wish I’d found out what it was so I could get one for home. We had a great five-night stay at this boutique hotel, which is in a part of South Beach we’ve loved since living there for several years. The staff were kind, helpful, and understanding. After our red-eye arrived very early, they kept our bags and let us check in around 10 a.m. Our room was clean, spacious, and thoughtfully laid out, with a desk, luggage space, closet storage, and a safe. The balcony was lovely, and the rooftop pool and loungers were clean and comfortable. Thanks, Prime Hotel!

I was looking forward to staying at the Prime Hotel because the pictures looked so nice, but finding a serious ceiling leak in my room was frightening. I discovered it overnight on the way to the bathroom and fell in a lot of water. I’m not someone who usually complains, but I worried about what might have happened if an older person had fallen there. The manager moved me to another room and offered to refund the deposit and parking, yet three weeks later I’m still waiting for that money. I often feel like I’m at fault when explaining an issue to the front desk, and they can be pushy. Be mindful when booking. The customer service wasn’t top-notch.

We were really happy with our choice. The rooftop pool was heated and a great place to relax after the beach, and we often had it to ourselves. This is a small hotel with just 12 rooms, so service was quick. Our king suite was clean and well kept, with everything we needed, a big balcony, rainfall shower, and satellite TV. The location was ideal for South Beach: about five minutes on foot north to the strip or east to the beach, with around 50 restaurants within a 20-minute walk. It’s quiet enough to be away from the action, while Starbucks is a block away and a small grocery store two blocks away.

A few days after checkout, check your card statement. We were billed for a minibar item we never touched, and after calling twice to ask for the charge to be reversed, I’m still waiting for a manager to call me back. The rest of our stay was fine: the room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the pool area nice. They left complimentary cookies and bottled water in the room, plus infused water in the lobby and pool areas in the morning. I do wish the door had a physical latch or another lock for extra security. The shower pressure was weak, and water pooled in the middle of the bathroom floor.
