Upsun Hotel

We stayed two nights last week after our cruise. The location is ideal for walking or taking public transport, with lots of cafes, bars, and restaurants nearby and South Beach just a five-minute walk away. Our room was simple but comfortable, with a good shower, fridge, and safe. We arrived around 11:30 a.m., well before the 3 p.m. check-in, but the lovely receptionist found a room that was ready and let us in early. The rooftop pool was nice, and you can watch the ships leave from up there. The bar and restaurant are being refurbished, so there were no facilities available, and the restaurant terrace was closed too. We hadn't been told this when we booked. I'd definitely stay again.

We split our week-long holiday between two stays here, and both were great. The hotel is close enough to walk to the beach, but far enough from Ocean Drive that the noise wasn't an issue. Rooms were clean and nicely designed, with a really good coffee setup. Staff were friendly and helpful, and valet parking was handy. Free water and coffee in the lobby were appreciated, too. The price was amazing for what we got. A great place to stay, highly recommended.

The room had some strange problems: none of the appliances worked, and the bedside lamps were absurdly far from the bed and partly detached from the wall. I was lucky to get a room facing the back, since the hotel is on a busy road. The location itself was nice, but the place was just okay, nothing special. During my visit the restaurant was closed for construction, with little effort to screen it off from public areas. At one point I had to walk through a cloud of sawdust to get outside. The hotel also wouldn't store my bags after checkout, which caused extra hassle and expense. The “resort fee” is meant to cover bikes, beach chairs, coffee, and Wi-Fi, but two of those are things most hotels provide free. Citi bikes are readily available, and chairs cost only $15 each, while an umbrella costs another $15 and isn't included. The fee hardly seemed reasonable. For a “4-star” hotel, I expected more.

Everything worked out perfectly for my stay the last weekend in August 2025. Each room gets two beach chairs, and we rented an umbrella for $15 a day. Bikes were free as part of the stay. The rooms are very modern, there was cold water in the lobby, and we got a welcome drink. Every staff member was kind and accommodating. Great price, too. I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in Miami.
