The staff were fine and seemed to be doing what they could, and I didn’t get to use the pool, though it looked fairly decent when I went in for three minutes. Still, I can’t recommend this Days Inn. I’d have spent the extra $50 somewhere else if I’d known what it would be like. I was stranded in Miami after a missed connection and picked a cheap hotel near the airport. It’s about a 12-minute drive from the terminal. The shuttle never came, so I spent half my room cost on a taxi. It only runs once an hour. The property is badly dated and unclean. The room smelled strongly of bleach, but it didn’t look properly cleaned. It felt like a cover-up, with things painted over instead of repaired. There were cigarette burns on the curtains, mold and mildew throughout the bathroom, sticky surfaces, and a zip tie on the floor under the door, as if someone had tried to unlock it that evening. The building is so old that my bed shook whenever someone walked by. I was afraid to touch anything in the bathroom.

The location was great, and the room was okay. I stayed two days, but had no Wi-Fi because of connectivity issues others had mentioned. The walls are paper thin, so it was loud during the day. The lobby was packed when I arrived, with nowhere to sit. The only place to wait for check-in was Subway. The attendants were doing their best, though it may just have been a chaotic day. My sheets were clean, but the floor hadn’t been mopped and there were stray hairs by the sink. Nothing disastrous, but this is a budget hotel and not a good choice for families.

We checked in with Gabby, who made it a nice experience. The rooms have had some updates, including attractive drapes, wall art, and flooring. The doors and trim need attention next. Humidity has swollen the wooden bathroom door so it won’t close, and the main door was hard to close too. There’s rust around the door frames, though that should be easy to fix. An elevator or lift would help. Carrying our luggage up two flights of stairs was very difficult.

The company replied politely to my message and offered to remove charges that had made the room more expensive than the quote from the third party where I booked. But the credit was taken off the card I’d used to pay for the room, then charged to the card I’d used to hold the reservation. I’m very disappointed with the experience. The room was clean, though the door stuck. Some front desk clerks were friendly and helpful. When we asked about the shuttles, we were given wrong information. We were out front in plenty of time, but weren’t allowed to use the shuttle because we hadn’t known to request it in advance. Both the driver and management were very rude.

I’ve stayed here twice in two months, and I’ll choose it whenever I cruise from Miami. The large rooms were clean and neat, with comfortable beds, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The managers found solutions when the shuttle couldn’t take me with my mobility scooter. On my first visit, during cold, rainy weather, I waited over an hour with many others. I’d been speaking with the general manager, Miss M, who said she’d tell the driver to look for me and pick me up first. When the bus arrived, everyone rushed on. The driver said it was full and he’d return in an hour. I was freezing and nearly in tears. I had no money for Uber or Lyft, but Miss M immediately told me to take a taxi and said the hotel would pay the driver when I arrived. When I came back yesterday, March 1, I called to say I had my scooter. The other general manager, Miss S, told me the company no longer picks up mobility scooters. I was frustrated, but she again said to take a taxi and the hotel would cover it. I’d worried the free ride to the port would leave me behind too, but they sent a large charter bus with luggage space underneath, which fit my scooter perfectly. It also saved me more money. Before my first visit, the nasty reviews about room conditions and staff had made me nervous and scared. I expected roaches, dingy rooms, and dirty linen and towels. What I found was completely different, and my initial worry quickly turned around. I learned not to judge a place only by other people’s reviews, and to have my own experience.
