Holiday Inn Express Newport North - Middletown by IHG

We had a very nice stay and plan to return. The hotel is conveniently located for visiting Newport, the room was clean, and the staff were kind. Free parking has plenty of spaces, and there's fresh-brewed coffee in the lobby all day and night, plus complimentary breakfast in the morning. The hallways got a bit noisy as people came and went, but the TV covered it.

I was upgraded to a suite as a Platinum Elite, and the room was clean. Parking was easy and the location worked well for me. Everyone, from the front desk to housekeeping, was kind and helpful. Scout at the desk deserves a special mention for making us feel at home. One of the better Holiday Inn Express stays I've had, and I'd gladly return.

The breakfast attendant was spectacular. He clearly enjoys the job, and everything was neatly stocked and ready to go. The beds were really comfortable, breakfast was good, and the coffee machines offered more than just coffee. We enjoyed our stay.

The front desk was nice enough when I needed help, and check-in was quick and easy with a friendly, efficient gentleman. The room seemed clean, the linens were plentiful, and there were lots of pillows and plenty of light. The decorative tissue box, though, held just two tissues arranged over an empty container, so I had to get more downstairs. IHG hotels are usually my go-to, but this conveniently located one isn't among the better properties. It didn't match what I expected from the “newly remodeled” claim. Maybe the downstairs has been remodeled, but the rooms certainly don't look that way. The furniture is old, the kitchenette cupboard doors won't stay shut, and the hallway and elevator rugs looked very worn and a bit dirty. The hallways were overheated, too. On the plus side, the breakfast attendant worked incredibly hard to keep things clean and stocked after a group of girls and their families used the area for breakfast and dinners. It looked pretty clean, and she was doing the work of two or three people. Good job to her. Those same kids ran up and down the hallways and nearby stairs late at night and again in the morning, apparently playing hide and seek or something. I had two rough nights of sleep, then got woken up when I tried to nap before a conference. I was so exhausted that I left a day early. When I went downstairs to check out, nobody was at the counter. A sign said they were away, so I left my keys in the return. The desk guy had been nice when I needed something, but he left papers and a sign blown around on the floor by the door while he was busy on his phone. That seems to be the problem now.
