Grand Texan Hotel and Convention Center

We booked two rooms, and both were disgusting: stained sheets, mess in the microwaves, and a weed smell. The place also didn’t seem up to safety code. They claimed the whole property was “under renovations,” but that certainly wasn’t true. It looked like a junk yard. The operator was one of the most disrespectful people I’ve dealt with, condescending and rude, you know the type. When we asked for a refund, we got every excuse imaginable. The owner even said, “we can’t give you a refund because prices are just too low to stay in business.” Brother, that isn’t my problem. I’d avoid this place at all costs. No low price makes it worth staying here.

The photos on the website need updating. The place looks nothing like them now, though maybe it did at one time. There’s a lot of work to do, including plenty of potholes in the parking lot. I was also charged for an extra day even though I’d already paid online, and getting my deposit credited back is taking forever. I’ve called to sort it out, but they don’t answer.

I liked the breakfast, and the woman serving it was very nice. But you have to eat there, since they don’t let you take a plate out. My first stay here was a letdown, especially given the name, lol. The room had stained carpet that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for me, and the lamp outlets, TV, and phone didn’t work. I had coffee bags but no coffee maker, which makes no sense. When I complained, the man at the front desk gave me rude looks and remarks. He had no respect at all. Next time I’ll read the comments before booking.

They were renovating the pool, and the manager quoted $70 a night as the best price, even though Maps showed $40. The $70 rate was for a double room, which was all they had available. The whole place struck me as seedy, so I went to a newer, cleaner hotel and paid less.
