Quality Inn Milan - Sandusky

Becki at the front desk was so helpful and gave us useful Cedar Point tips. She said to arrive 30-60 minutes before opening for the best parking, and to bring a cooler with ice to keep food in the car. You can leave the park and come back in. We walked out to our car for lunch, then headed back inside after stopping at Walmart for sandwiches. We stayed two nights. It’s simple and convenient, and the beds were cozy. For what we paid, we were very happy. If simple is what you want, you’ll like it here. Breakfast was basic too: make-your-own waffles, coffee, orange juice, cereal with milk, and yogurt. I’m 5’9” and the shower head only reached my chest, so I had to duck down. Anyone taller than 5’9” will have a hard time washing their hair.

The exterior doors could be opened by anyone, with no key access, which felt like a serious safety issue. The TV didn’t work, and the heater hadn’t been turned on for our room. The pool area was awful. Kids were swimming while there was so much chemical smell and steam in the air that it was hard to breathe or see, and the hotel eventually closed the pool. The bathroom had no shower curtain, the shower ran constantly, and there was no fan. Ventilation was poor throughout the building, and condensation dripped from the windows onto the sills. The bed’s comforter was stained. Breakfast was waffles and some cereal, and the milk container had old, solidified milk on the pour spout. I felt sick wondering how long it had gone without cleaning.

This is a review of the Milan location. I don’t know if the Sandusky one is better. Check-in took a long time at night because only one person was available to help. The keys demagnetized easily when placed near a mobile device. In our room, there was a used lotion bottle and a fridge that wobbled. The breakfast setup shown in the pictures was misleading and didn’t match what was actually there. Options were limited: no meat or sides with the waffles, which stuck to the iron, and no water or juice. They served Sunny D instead of real orange juice. The hot tub heater wasn’t working and was under maintenance. Another customer said they’d found used soap in their bathroom.

The front desk service was good, and all the staff were friendly, including the cleaning staff. The cleaners just need to do a more thorough job. The rooms were spacious, and the main areas had been cleaned and the beds made, but the bathrooms hadn’t: the toilet had stains, and there was hair and dust in the corners and in the bathtub. In one room, floor tiles were lifting and could catch your feet or make you trip. Humidity was a problem. The rooms felt damp, including the blankets and pillows, towels wouldn’t dry, and the musty smell made the building seem old. We had to make the room very cold to try to deal with the moisture. There are no bathroom exhaust fans. Breakfast didn’t have many options: waffles, cereal, yogurt, coffee, and tea. The juice machine was out of order, though some days there was a jug of orange juice. Pool towels were never available there, so we had to get them from the front desk. The outdoor pool was sometimes closed, and guests were told it had no chlorine. The indoor pool smelled of gas. The hotel needs remodeling and upgrades, but it has good potential. It’s close to the highway, with a McDonald’s, Subway, and convenience store across the street. Sandusky is 15 minutes up Milan Road and has restaurants and grocery stores.
