La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Shawnee

I’m looking forward to breakfast, especially since I spotted a waffle maker. When I book, I look for in-room coffee and a breakfast with more than just danish and coffee. Check-in was easy, and the woman at the desk was pleasant to talk with. My room has a comfortable king bed and small sleeper sofa, and it’s lovely and free of bed bugs. There’s no view, but I asked for a room by the elevator and got what I requested, with the roof next door outside the window. 😁

The breakfast selection was complete, and the attention to detail stood out. I liked the window treatments, especially the darkening shades. The room was clean and well equipped, with comfortable furniture and bed, and a good shower. Staff were friendly and helpful. I’ve stayed here before and will again.

The woman working at the desk was just the best, and the service was great in every way. The rooms were so cool. People definitely need to come here.

Breakfast was consistently good, with eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee, three juices, muffins and bagels. The man looking after the breakfast area was friendly and attentive. The location was hard to get into, though. There’s no street sign or visible hotel sign, and the turn is right where people exit the freeway, so you have to gun it. I missed it three times. Being near the mall was a plus. The suite was roomy, with a separate living room and an oversized bedroom, but we found white dog and cat hair embedded in our socks and all over our clothes. There were lots of dogs staying there, and since my son and I are allergic to pet dander, it was gross. We were covered in dog hair for all three days and tried to keep our belongings off the floor. Pulling out the sofa bed was disgusting: it had stains, food crumbs and a black mark. When I asked for fresh sheets, the woman gave me only flat sheets, no fitted one, so we put the bed away again. The area under the couch was filthy, and when I put a lamp on the floor to find my son’s missing Lego pieces, I saw how deeply the pet hair was worked into the carpet. The pool was warm on the first day and cold for the rest of our stay, and there were no pool towels on the third day. I told the front desk about the room, but they said they couldn’t offer a discount. That was another bummer.
