Holiday Inn Express & Suites Milford

We were stuck here because our hockey tournament assigned the hotel to our team, and it was well below my standards. The shower rod was pulling a tile out of the wall. Someone came to look, said it was a two-hour job, and left without fixing it. The sink backed up every time we used it, and our room was never cleaned. I had to ask for towels every day, more than once to remind them. At check-in, the front desk staff didn’t even look up at guests, just said, “Rooms aren’t ready yet,” without checking whether someone was already staying there. We’ve contacted the tournament to get this hotel removed from its list. I ended up telling my kids to be thankful for what we have at home. It’s miserable to leave a nice home and spend money on a weekend away at a dump. I’d strongly recommend the Hilton Garden Inn across the street instead.

At first I liked the hotel, then I started noticing problems. The phone was broken, and after I told the front desk, it never got fixed or replaced. When we went down for breakfast the next day, the food was decent, but the coffee station was dirty, with creamer splattered and crusted on the bottle and shelves. The milk, yogurt, and boiled eggs in the fridge didn’t seem to be kept at the right temperature. We had to keep going to the front desk for towels and washcloths, and nobody cleaned our room during our four-day stay. The pool was dirty, with what looked like leaves and dirt on the bottom. When I complained, the worker blamed it on kids having lotion or oil on their skin, but it looked like more than that. We could barely watch TV because even the channels marked “FREE” required payment. A month ago they put a $50 hold on my card, and I still haven’t gotten it back. I know hotels aren’t always perfect, but the staff didn’t seem to care and there was no urgency. I’d never come back. This wasn’t a vacation, it was a nightmare.

Everything was great, from the clean room and bathrooms to the nice staff, breakfast, pool, and amenities. The pool was a little cooler than I prefer, and I wish the pillows were better, though that seems to be a general issue. There are a couple of gas stations nearby with fully stocked convenience stores, and the mall is close too. Electric car charging stations would be the one thing that could make the hotel a bit better.

It’s an average, older hotel. The room was clean, but the lampshades were stained and crooked, and the decor felt drab and dated. Our room wasn’t cleaned during the two nights we stayed, and I don’t know why. It’s fine if you don’t care much about what your room looks like. You get what you pay for.
