The Knickerbocker on the Lake

It’s a pretty historic hotel, and the staff were genuinely welcoming. Everything was clean and well kept. The location is attractive, though walking to places isn’t as convenient as I’d hoped. You might get a decent lake view, but we didn’t. Noise was the problem at night. You can hear every little sound through the walls from neighboring rooms, and drunk people were banging on doors and yelling at 3am. I guess that part isn’t the hotel’s fault.

We usually stay at chain hotels, but the lakefront location caught our eye and we had such a good time that we’ve booked two more weekends here this summer. The building has both rooms and condos, with some people living there and others renting their units, which I bet gives each place its own character. We stayed in #610. The bedroom fan didn’t work and was dusty, the mattress was very worn, and the TV was too large for that small room and its closeness to the bed. Even with those issues, we enjoyed our stay.

There’s plenty of space in the room, with two huge walk-in closets, and the shower pressure was good. The walls near the hallway are a bit thin, but it wasn’t too bad since the bed was farther into the room. This is a lovely historic hotel, and the old-time details make that clear, from the fixtures and accents to the actual physical keys. I’d recommend staying here.

Christmas here is lovely to look at, with such pretty decorations. The service is wonderful, and the food is outstanding. I always feel looked after, whether I come alone or with a group. It has that cozy comfort of curling up with your favorite blanket. I love this place and can’t wait to go again.
