We checked out at 10:00 PM instead of spending the night. Our room stayed too hot even after we ran the AC for an hour and a half, and it was dirty, with stained sheets that looked unclean. The furniture was outdated, and the sofa bed in the second room was broken. The online photos didn't match what we saw in person. Between that, the unavailable pool and breakfast, and the missing sofa bed in our first room, I wondered what the $135 we'd paid was for. We had to switch rooms because the first one didn't have the sofa bed we expected. Staff had to search for another room that did. The booking and check-in went smoothly, and the outside looked decent enough. I had specifically asked whether there was a pool and continental breakfast because I was traveling with four kids in 95-degree weather. I was told the pool was outdoors and breakfast was included. When we arrived, the pool looked like it might actually be indoors, but we were just glad there was one. Later we found out it was completely closed, and the employee said they no longer served breakfast. Very disappointing. The advertised amenities weren't available, and we won't return.
It's spacious, cheap, and handy to the highway, but the room wasn't well equipped or maintained, with corners cut everywhere. There was no shampoo or refrigerator, and the ice machine in the common area wasn't connected. Wires were exposed, the seating sagged, and there was no chair for the desk. The lighting was odd, with one bedside lamp tied to the switch by the entry. They didn't clean the room between my two nights. The bed was a metal platform with a mattress that made a loud bang whenever I got in or out. At first glance, the room looked very clean, nice, and modern. It went downhill from there.
I stayed because, after spending all day at my mother's hospice, I was too heartbroken at 11:30 PM to keep fighting, and the clean sheets won out. I slept on and off and left first thing the next morning. I'd never paid so much for such an awful experience, especially $200, only to be told by booking.com that nothing could be done. I'm also leaving reviews for booking.com and the motel. I'll never stay at a Motel 6 again. The room wasn't close to the clean, inviting place shown on booking.com. It felt unfinished, with just tables, a king-size bed, and one office chair in the King Suite. There was a two-inch-deep gap at the doorway between the entry and bathroom, holes in the walls taped up for texturing and painting, and missing pictures and fixtures. Something that looked like dried blood was splattered on the curtain, and the bed's dust ruffle was ripped. The only office chair was broken and unusable, with torn armrests and holes in the seat. Only two lamps worked. The floors, sheets, and mattress were clean, and the 24-inch TV worked. The place was clearly under construction, with boxes of new furniture, fixtures, and hardware filling the lobby. When I asked, the clerk said only a few rooms were being renovated and brushed off the concern. Then my husband was in the elevator going from the second floor to the first when it made a terrible noise. It opened on the first floor, but the elevator had broken. The clerks said it did that and put out-of-order signs on all three floors. We had to use a very narrow staircase. Its first landing felt very soft, like one good jump could have taken you through it. The men at the front desk insisted this was normal and wouldn't help us. Awful.
Gwen was an amazing manager and made us feel like real people, not just customers. My husband said he'll stay here whenever work sends him to Mineral Wells. I called weeks ahead to book for him, then checked in with Gwen a couple of days each week. She was friendly and polite every time. When he arrived early that morning, she quickly got him a room with a big smile, then got straight down to business. Great job, Motel 6, having such a great manager.
The rooms and beds were disgusting and unsanitary, even though the exterior looked like it might be under renovation. On my first night, the room was filthy, with visible blood on the walls and a dirty toilet. On the second, even worse night, I only found out the next morning that the bed linens and mattress had obvious blood stains, not just small or old discoloration. This is a serious health concern. I stayed at Motel 6 in Mineral Wells, TX for two separate nights in two different rooms, and both experiences were unacceptable. The front desk employee said Gwen, the manager and her mother, wouldn't be available until Monday and that she'd have Gwen call. No one did. I followed up myself on Wednesday, and Gwen said I'd waited too long to request a refund. I explained I'd left a message and was waiting for her to call, which I shouldn't have had to chase. Then she got hostile and said that since it had become “personal,” she could drag it out as long as she wanted and wouldn't help me anymore. She told me to contact Priceline and refused to take responsibility. She also said the owner lived outside the U.S., leaving guests with no accountability or resolution. I'll contact the health department. No one should have to stay in rooms with bedding like this. Don't stay here. Management won't take accountability.
