California Inn

The place is diverse and has an urban feel. It’s not fully modernized yet, but you can see things coming together, and it has room to grow, maybe with more rooms someday. You get what you pay for without overpriced surprises. The owners are generally friendly, and the maintenance staff are quick and extremely helpful. Towels were clean and smelled of detergent, which made it feel a bit like a home away from home. Just pay your balance on time and you should be okay with them. Thanks for the hospitality.

I wouldn’t stay at this California Inn. Save your money. The rent keeps going up, and if it takes too much of what you earn, you can end up with hardly anything left to live on. The rest of what I’m trying to say about renting here is hard to make sense of.

The rooms were filthy, with bed bugs and other parasites, and the bedding wasn’t clean. You might find only a quarter roll of toilet paper, and the ice machine outside doesn’t work. The woman in the office was hard for me to understand in English, and when I asked her to repeat herself, she got mad. There are no phones in the rooms to arrange a wake-up call with the office. People sleep in cars in the parking lot, and there’s no assigned parking, so you can end up on the street outside. With shady people running around constantly, that didn’t feel safe. They charge $108 a night. I think the place should be shut down, or at least inspected by the health department.

The room was old but not especially dirty, and nothing was awful or great. The bed was okay and held three people at once; no bugs. Sheets and towels were clean and did the job, though neither was especially soft. The bathroom counter had lots of burn marks and other damage. It’s convenient if you need to make some money, with no drama or judgment as long as you’re cool and discreet. There was lots of truck and traffic noise right outside. A few guests helped me pick out outfits, and the schoolgirl one is a hit.
