Fairground Inn

The room was filthy from top to bottom. The bathroom mirror, counter, and shower were moldy and dirty, with someone else's used bar of soap left behind. There was no toilet paper, and the floor felt sticky. I also found hairs on the pillowcase, a used plastic cup on the shelf, and only two hangers in the closet. The carpet was stained, the upholstery was ripped open with stuffing exposed, and the walls had patches and the door had holes. You can guess what the mattress was like. From the highway side, trucks and trains are loud, especially on the south side of the building. This is the most disgusting motel room I've ever stayed in. Do not stay here.

The location was handy, with everything right across the road, and the staff were friendly enough despite a slight language barrier. The train passes once or twice a night and wasn't too bad. Still, I wouldn't stay again. I found tiny pieces of glass in the bed, saw a large rat near the dumpster one morning, and no one cleaned our room during the eight days we were there. I had to ask for clean towels, too. The room was clean when we arrived and the beds were comfortable, but the mini fridge didn't work and made the room smell. They brought a replacement straight from the box after I asked. Shower pressure was weak, though the water was hot. The AC was temperamental and wouldn't go below 60. Breakfast was very limited and nothing like the website picture. Next time I'll pay more to stay across the street.

The carpet was sticky and had several stains, and I found the bed extremely uncomfortable, like thin, well-used memory foam. If you're over 40, you may want to look elsewhere. We're not especially picky, though, and the rest of the stay was pleasant. The staff were very friendly and helped us figure out the TV. The hot water was great, and they supplied the usual soap and shampoo. The building is clearly dated, but it was surprisingly quiet inside, and there are plenty of nearby amenities. The location worked for us. There's an active train track beside the hotel, but with earplugs I didn't find the train too bad.

On the night of November 20th, my service animal spotted a rat in our room and chased it around. I'm disabled and was there with my 4-year-old child. When I reported it, I was called a liar because I hadn't stopped to take a picture, and they said the police would be called on me. This is ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend bringing children here.
