Red Roof Inn & Suites Monroe, NC

If you have a dog, this is the place I'd pick. Everything was great, and the little flaws don't change that. I'm a construction worker and handyman, so I can't help spotting things like peeling or chipped paint and low water pressure at the bathroom sink. I notice that sort of stuff everywhere, even in the courthouse, lol.

The room was big, nice, and very clean, and thankfully there were no bugs. We were in a great spot near restaurants and mostly a Wal-Mart. The gentleman at the front desk was respectful and really nice.

I wouldn't stay here again or recommend it to anyone. The room smelled musty when I opened the door, so I sprayed fragrance to cover the odor. At checkout, I asked for my deposit, but a desk employee said I had smoked in the room. I hadn't. I asked them to check the cameras, which would show me going outside to smoke in the middle of the night. There were also several room problems: the AC leaked inside instead of out on the balcony, the bathroom door had a piece of wood missing, the shower knob was cracked, and the toilet seat had missing paint. Even if this were my last option in Monroe, I wouldn't stay here.

We were charged $140 for the room even though the online price was $69, and they also asked for a deposit. When we went in, it looked awful and smelled horrible. There were drug addicts staying in rooms beside ours, and men sitting outside the rooms. To me, it seemed like prostitution was happening there. I was scared all night because the doors between their room and ours had no latch for protection. The sheets had burn holes, the room looked 100 years old, and the shower was so gross I was afraid to use it. We stayed about four hours and left. It wasn't a pleasant place, especially if you're near the people I saw there. The woman at the counter was rude when I went to get our money back. I went to Red Roof Inn instead, where the service and room were great. I had to find somewhere else to shower off the gross feeling from this place. I'll never stay at a Red Roof again?
