Hampton Inn Pittsburgh/Monroeville

Our room floor needed a thorough sweep and vacuum, and the elevators were beat up and dirty. I can't understand how a housekeeper could leave a room in that condition. We're Hilton Honors members and expect a certain level of cleanliness at Hampton Inn or any Hilton property. They're usually clean, but this one wasn't. Yuk. I'd assumed it would meet Hampton Inn standards, and I was wrong. If I'd read the reviews first, I wouldn't have stayed. I'll check reviews before booking from now on. Pass this one by.

The front desk was the bright spot. The person with the red beard working at 7pm on Dec 28 and the young person with long dark hair at 10:30am on the 29th were both fabulous. They comped our one night and waived the cancellation fee. Our room was filthy, with thick dust, dirt, and human hair all over. A wet tissue turned black when I wiped the bathroom floor. There was some "stuff" around the toilet seat, and the chair looked like it had dried blood on it, with black dirt in many spots. The carpet felt damp and sticky, and the room smelled like mildew. I bought cleaner and used two cans of disinfectant wipes to make it safe enough for my kid to enter. The mattresses were the worst I've ever had in a hotel, and the areas outside the room that we saw were old, run down, and dirty too. The pool area felt unsafe as well. My kid reached for the pool edge, sliced a finger on the rough surface, and got a 1/4-inch gash.

The evening staff made the stay worthwhile. They went out of their way to welcome and accommodate all of us, and recommended the best of everything while I was there for a Ministry Consecration. One of the staff had a bobblehead of himself at the desk and was the absolute star of the team. The front desk and hotel staff were AMAZING. The hotel itself was nice and in a good location, and the room was great. When I stay in Monroeville again, I'll choose the Hampton Inn.

I injured my knee, so walking was painful. But after the digital key failed, I had to go back downstairs for physical keys. The room was cold, and the thermostat wouldn't work. I called the front desk several times with no answer, then went down twice more to ask to switch rooms and couldn't find anyone. At checkout the next morning, I asked for a discount or some other concession. The manager said maintenance would need to look at it, as if she thought I was lying, and said she'd contact me. Three and a half hours later, no call had come, and I was charged the full amount. I spent the night freezing in a room with no working thermostat. I'm an Honors member, and I hate to think how nonmembers are treated. I'll never stay here again, and may not stay at another Hilton.
