Haven Montauk

We’ve stayed here every year for the past four years, and the experience has been consistently good. The rooms are spotless, stocked with the toiletries you need, and you’d never guess pets had stayed in them, even though Haven welcomes them. The staff are professional and pleasant. Michelle is always there when we visit, and she’s a refreshing, prepared presence who makes sure we have what we need. Stores and restaurants are within walking distance, while the center of town is about 3 mi away. Our first visit exceeded expectations, and we’re already looking forward to the next one. I’d recommend Haven to anyone visiting Montauk.

The pool felt tucked away and private, and there was a lovely seating area with a grill. Coffee and lemon water at the front desk were a nice touch. They also lend out bikes, but they’re all the same size, so one didn’t work for someone who’s 5'1. That was disappointing. We booked the Haven at the last minute while I was on a business trip. It’s a cute little place in a good spot, though there’s no view from the room, just a gravel lot. Across the road, a small bay beach is nice for an evening sunset walk. The town has shops and dining, mostly Mom and Pop places, and it took only a few minutes to drive there. We went more than once a day and didn’t mind, but it isn’t really walkable, so I’d choose somewhere else if having everything central matters to you. Our room was clean, with a good-sized bed, and looked much like the online photos. The white-painted wood walls gave it a cabin feel. The rooms are basic, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom was small, with only a standing shower, and the toilet area was cramped. It was manageable for two adults, though I can imagine it being annoying with kids, and likely uncomfortable for a larger person. My main concern, and why I’m giving four stars, was the keypad lock. All the doors open to the outside, and we booked the same room on two separate occasions and received the same code both times. That made me uneasy, since someone who’d stayed in the room before might know it and be able to get in. I haven’t seen a hotel use this kind of system, and it didn’t feel very safe to me.

It was peaceful and felt safe, and we made some really nice memories. The room was tidy and very clean, though having the toilet so close to the bed was uncomfortable. There wasn’t bathroom ventilation, so I had to open the window. Colleen on staff kindly helped us with the campfire and grilling, and we had a lot of fun.

For a one-night stay, we had a great time. We borrowed the complimentary bikes and had a fire pit going in the courtyard that evening. The staff were lovely and always ready to help. Our room was clean and simple, with everything we needed.
