Old Monterey Inn

We booked the Library room eight months ahead for a three-night 25th anniversary trip that fell on Valentine’s Day in 2025, but left after one night. The room was tiny and smelled awful, like damp carpet that had never been cleaned and had started to mold and rot. There was no heat in the room, so we relied on a space heater. It was meant to have a balcony, but the door had been sealed with plastic and let in a huge cold draft. Check-in was bizarre. The woman at the desk had lost her son that day, and no one covered her shift, so she was understandably grieving while checking in a full booking of customers. We were told our stay would be refunded because we were so unhappy, but not a dollar came back. We paid the full three nights, $2,340.13, plus a $585.09 deposit. I would never recommend this place or stay again.

Everything about our stay at The Old Monterey Inn was done brilliantly, from the rooms and breakfast to the beautiful grounds. We were there for IndyCar weekend at Laguna Seca, and Wendy and her staff were fantastic, friendly, and very helpful. The guest fridge was stocked with soft drinks, yogurt, and water, and the cheese and wine buffet from 4 pm to 6 pm was a lovely way to mingle with other guests. I’d happily stay here again. Wendy’s hospitality was above and beyond, and the whole staff were friendly. The place is beautifully kept inside and out, and it was very quiet. We enjoyed every breakfast Wendy made, and she even shared her herb baked eggs recipe. The afternoon wine and cheese was top notch, with Silvestri wine from a local winery. It’s also close to the wharf, restaurants, Point Lobos, and 17 mile Dr. This is by far the best five-star bed and breakfast we’ve stayed at. Don’t hesitate to book here for Monterey, you won’t be disappointed! Rex & Lisa

Wendy was so welcoming and kind, even though she wasn’t feeling well. One day we got back late, and she’d left cheese and wine out for us. The house is beautiful, and I got to play its piano. Breakfast was delicious, and the service was top notch. My mom really enjoyed staying here. The heat didn’t spread through the room very well, so she would have liked it warmer. Wendy gave us a plug-in heater. I like the cold, so I was fine, but people who get cold easily, especially older guests, may need more heat. Their cat Theo greeted us as soon as we arrived and even led us to the front door. I’ll recommend this place to friends visiting. Parking was very easy, and the location is close to everything.
