Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

The staff were kind and attentive from the moment we arrived, and one moment in particular stood out: they helped us get our lowered car out safely. The regular parking garage was tricky for it, so the team kindly guided us through the staff exit. The whole hotel was comfortable and luxurious, with well-appointed rooms and relaxing spa facilities. The location is great for exploring Monterey Bay, with beautiful views and local attractions easy to reach. We had an incredible stay, and the staff’s care made a big difference. I highly recommend the Portola Hotel and Spa to anyone visiting Monterey Bay.

The rooms were nice, and the service was excellent. There wasn’t a microwave in our room, but the front desk brought one up, which was great. Planes flying over can be loud because of the location, though that isn’t the hotel’s fault. EV charging is available, but it costs more than usual. Complimentary charging for hotel guests would be a nice incentive. We had a great stay and I’d come back.

You’re just steps from Downtown Monterey and Old Fisherman’s Wharf, which made sightseeing, eating out, and exploring easy. The hotel has a peaceful feel, and while it isn’t right on the waterfront, some areas have lovely bay views. Our room was clean and nicely equipped, but the bed was so uncomfortable for me that I barely slept. That alone might send me to another nearby place next time, which is a shame given how much I liked the location and atmosphere. Check-in also felt surprisingly old-fashioned: everyone has to line up for the front desk, and the wait was long. Online or mobile check-in would help. Better beds and an easier check-in process would make the stay much more enjoyable.

I was in town taking care of a few things for my business, The Cut Barbershop, and this was a convenient base for getting around. The room was clean and comfortable, check-in was easy, and the location was solid. No complaints, I’d stay again.
