We recently spent three nights at The Rivera, and it felt empty. I remember when it used to be full of people and kids playing. It honestly feels like the new owners want it to close so they don’t have to deal with it anymore. We’ve been coming here for years, since I was a little kid, so it’s really sad to see how it’s being maintained. Things have gone downhill since the new owners took over. They did put in new flooring, but there were weeds all around our room, no coffee pot or ice, and we never got fresh towels. The office closes early, the beds are horrible, the toilet was broken, and the staff were rude. Until they make major improvements to the rooms and landscaping and have friendly staff who make guests feel welcome, we won’t come back. It’s disheartening to say that after so many years.

We had such a good experience with the new manager, Kari. She was kind and respectful, treated my family like her own, and even brought us warm towels and blankets straight from the dryer. The rooms could use updating, but Indiana Beach is an easy walk away and the lake view is beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for better hospitality. Kari’s hard work and dedication made the stay for us. There’s a lot of potential here, and I’m looking forward to coming back and seeing the changes she makes.
The pool was slimy and dirty, so I didn’t even want to get in. We had to switch rooms because the AC wasn’t working right on a 90 degree day, but the new room wasn’t clean either, with food all over. When staff cleaned it, they used Clorox bleach and got some on my clothes. We set the AC to 54 degrees, but the room stayed around 80 all night. The shower didn’t work, the fridge didn’t work, and there wasn’t a microwave even though we were told there would be one. We didn’t have towels or the usual things a hotel or resort should have ready. A little girl in the pool kept spraying anyone who came near with freezing water from a hose, even after being told repeatedly to stop. We made last minute reservations for Labor Day weekend and regret it badly. It felt gross and unprofessional. I’ll never spend money here again.
We arrived for our annual Father’s Day weekend trip with reservations that had been reconfirmed in April, but the new owners had no record of the booking or deposit. We lost our money and were extremely upset. We tried to stay anyway, but the room was dirty and had no toilet water. The pool was green and dirty too, so we got out of there as fast as we could. The manager was extremely rude. Don’t waste a penny here. We stayed at Bay Pointe Resort a little farther up the road, and it was much better. The new Riviera doesn’t deserve even one star.
We’ve stayed here many times, but when my family recently booked a room and paid a $50 deposit, we later heard there were problems with mold, bugs, and the pool. I wasn’t willing to risk staying with my infant if there was mold. We called to cancel and they kept the deposit, then tried to charge us for a whole night. The old owners were very nice and wouldn’t have done that. We’re not coming back.
