Motel 6 Morro Bay, CA

I’ve stayed here more than four times in two years, and for the price it’s hard to beat. The rooms are clean, the beach is within walking distance, and it’s under $150. Staff are always friendly, even when I arrive late. My beagle cashew stays free, which saves almost $50 compared with places farther down the road. Motel 6 is a great budget option for a pleasant stay. Highly recommend.

The biggest plus at Motel 6 is that pets stay free, which is a real perk. I got early check-in for a $20 fee, and the cramped room was clean. I come to Morro Bay for work every month and need a fridge for food. I assumed the room would have one and didn’t think to ask, but it didn’t, so I wouldn’t stay here again. Also, there was no shampoo, conditioner, lotion, coffee maker, or hairdryer. The front desk had shampoo packets, but they were really hard to open with wet hands in the shower.

On my fourth night, cigarette and marijuana smoke came into my room through the bathroom exhaust. The front desk wasn’t staffed when I went looking for the property manager. Later, I reported the smoke at the desk, and was immediately told I couldn’t stay beyond that night and had to check out the next morning if I had complaints. I stood by my complaint because it was valid. They said no one else had ever raised the issue. I’m displaced from my usual living arrangements in Morro Bay because of water damage, and this made things worse. The person at the front desk should be fired. The first room I was shown had such a strong Clorox smell it burned my eyes. When I checked the bedding, the comforter was wet with Clorox. They showed me two other rooms, and I chose one that seemed acceptable, though it had a strange smell. I would not recommend staying here.

My husband and I had stayed here several times over the last three years without problems, but this weekend changed that. The room we booked was a king, not an ADA room, but when we arrived they said that was what they had for us. Once inside, I found several long hairs on the sheets and pillows, then used soap bars with little hairs on them in the shower. It didn’t look like the room had been cleaned. They could only move us to a two-bed room, which wasn’t an upgrade for us since we like having a king bed when we travel and had booked and paid for one. I asked for some kind of refund and was refused. They said we could cancel and find somewhere else if we wanted a full refund. The place has gone downhill over the years, and they’ve lost us as loyal customers.
