Days Inn by Wyndham Mount Pleasant

The room reeked of mildew as soon as we arrived, and things went downhill from there. The furniture was chipped and worn, tiles were coming off the bathtub, and the toilet was stained. The outside of the mini fridge was covered in rust, and the ice machine didn’t work. I sent my husband Jack to ask the desk for extra pillows, hoping I could get some rest, but they didn’t have any. There were people in the building who seemed to be living there. Jack and I were only staying one night, and even that felt like too much.

We arrived late at night after our flight was redirected and needed somewhere to sleep. The area right around the hotel felt rough, and we left as quickly as we could the next morning. We got a little sleep, but this was the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. Even youth hostels are much better. Only go if you’re desperate. We had to try three rooms. The first was infested with insects, the second smelled of mould, and the third strongly smelled of smoke. There was lots of outside noise. The bathroom was awful, with a door that wouldn’t shut, though the shower worked okay. The air conditioning worked, but either blasted noisily, sounding a bit like a plane taking off, or did nothing. It started up throughout the night. At least the bedding was clean and the bed fairly comfortable.

We booked rooms for a large group in late April after last-minute problems at our original hotel. We’d read the reviews and expected the worst, but at first the room looked decent, with a touchscreen mirror and floors and bedding that seemed clean. I even lifted the mattress and checked with a flashlight when we arrived. Still, I woke up covered in bed bug bites. The mattress had a mesh-like protective cover that couldn’t be removed, so they may have been hiding underneath where I couldn’t see them. Management had no other rooms for us and wouldn’t refund us. Just a horrible stay. You really do get what you pay for. Do not stay here.

The room problems were frustrating. The first one wasn’t clean, had only one bed made, and had neither towels nor a shower curtain. In the second room, there were just two towels for four people, the A/C barely worked, the fridge froze everything, and the beds were hard as concrete. Still, the room was clean, the price was fair, and the pool was clean and open. The kids enjoyed it, there were some good restaurants nearby, and the staff were friendly and very helpful.
