The Cottages on Charleston Harbor

We had room to spread out, and the cottage had everything we needed for our vacation. We could watch ships coming into the harbor, and a lizard even visited our screened porch. There was lots of wonderful food a short drive away. Such a sweet, adorable place.

The water taxi into Charleston was the best part, and the location was excellent. There are other resorts in the complex with restaurants, plus a marina boardwalk. The cottages have a charming, laid-back feel, the grounds are lovely, and the ocean views are spectacular. The staff were very friendly and exceptionally helpful. Can’t wait to come back!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here and really enjoyed our stay. The cottages have amazing views. Before we arrived, Lisa and Betty helped us with ideas for activities and events. They, along with Maggie, were very hospitable during our visit, and Jackson was supportive in helping my wife, who is handicapped, get to and from the room.

Our previous two stays at Charleston Harbor Cottages were favorites, which made this birthday visit especially disappointing. Two hours before check-in, we learned our beloved Cottage 10 wasn’t available and were moved to a supposed “upgraded” cottage, described as a staff favorite. With this location reportedly under consideration for a Condé Nast award, I don’t understand why. The interior walls and doors were in serious disrepair, and maintenance said there was a long repair list. The porch usually offers a relaxing spot and nice view, the beds were comfortable, and the cottage had a full kitchen and three bathrooms. But nearby neighbors were noisy, and there were bugs. We did enjoy seeing “Alfred,” the alligator we named, sunning on the lawn. The kids thought that was fun. There weren’t clean towels at the pool when we went at 6:30 p.m., so we had to take bath towels from the cottage. Staff leave between 4 and 6 p.m. I was in constant contact with them, visiting the office several times and even texting the office manager. In past visits, staff checked whether we were celebrating anything special. This time no one asked, which added to the disappointment. I hope management addresses these problems. This wasn’t the joyful stay we expected.
