Days Inn by Wyndham Mountain Grove

The bedding and bathroom were clean, but the carpet was awful and sticky in spots. The place is definitely due for a remodel. We got conditioner but no shampoo, and just one tiny bar of soap and one washcloth for three people. The card keys didn't work, so the desk clerk had to let us in whenever we came back. When we asked about that and the other problems, all we got was a shrug and "I don't know." There wasn't even a small discount for the hassle, and it felt overpriced for the area and what was provided. We drove past three times because the sign wasn't lit after dark.

The room cost $71.20, including $8.25 tax, and felt more like a $30 roach motel. After nine hours of driving through rain and thunderstorms at night, I needed somewhere to rest. The only other place Google showed was also a dump and was full. The light outside room 113 didn't work, so I had to use my phone flashlight to find the card reader. Opening the door, the smell nearly knocked me over. The room was disgusting. There were human hairs and clumps of dog hair on the bed, and I doubt the sheets had been changed in a while. Nothing had been dusted, the floors were filthy, and the shower, toilet, sink, and vanity were dirty, mildewy, and moldy, with mold behind the faucet and cobwebs on the ceiling. I put my luggage straight back in the car and slept on top of the covers with my own throw blanket underneath. In the morning I put it in a plastic bag, worried something might have gotten into it, and got out of there right away. I can't believe Days Inn lets its name be associated with this motel.

The desk people were nice, but couldn't help, and there was no lobby assistance between midnight and 8 a.m. The key machine was broken, so staff had to let you into your room. Hope you don't leave it, and don't expect maid service either. The rooms and service were disgusting, but they offered no discount or anything. I've never stayed somewhere worse. You couldn't adjust the shower or tub temperature. A wood screw had been shoved in to turn the water on. The TV had to be programmed every time you switched it on.

I was in town for work and needed somewhere to stay. Since it was a national chain, I expected things to be fine. The front desk clerk was friendly and accommodating, and it started out okay. Then my key seemed to unlock the door, but I couldn't get it open. The clerk said the door was tricky and she'd have to show me. Even she had trouble getting it open. Once I finally got into the room, it reeked of cigarette smoke, though it was supposed to be non-smoking, and there were flies everywhere. Filthy and disgusting. I couldn't wait to check out, and I'll never return.
