For us, the OYO Crepe worked just fine, though it’s not the Ritz. The room was basic and small, but clean, and we felt safe. We don’t spend much time in our room when we travel, so the convenience and access mattered more than modern amenities. The location is great, just a couple of minutes’ walk to the water or to shopping and places to eat and drink. The pool is open 24 hours, never felt crowded, and the water was sparkling clean. My wife turned the room upside down looking for bugs as soon as we arrived, and we didn’t see a single one. The shower had ideal water pressure and temperature. The faucet sat a bit low, or maybe I’m just tall, but I like being able to feel properly clean. Vic and the staff were very responsive. I’d worried about there not being on-site staff, but Vic was generally around and answered quickly whenever we needed him. The only minor drawbacks were that they seemed to be working on getting WiFi and the room had a few rough spots, like dried paint splatter in the tub. Nothing that would stop us from staying again. It’s a great price and location, so I’d put it on the list if those matter more to you than modern amenities.
The pool was open around the clock and the beach was close, but that’s about all I can say in its favor. The place felt unsafe from check-in, and both inside and outside were badly run down. The floors were so filthy they blackened our clothes. We were short on towels and pillows, and there was mold on the walls along with cracks that need replacing. Even at an affordable price, I don’t think this property should be allowed to operate. I’d gladly pay $20-$40 more for somewhere clean and safe.
I drove past the hotel when I arrived, hoping it wasn’t the one I’d booked. Sadly, it was. The parking lot and grounds had trash everywhere, scattered construction materials, and needles that looked like drug paraphernalia. I refused to stay, both because of that and because staff told me at check-in they didn’t allow pets, emotional support animals, or service animals, despite what I’d been told before booking and what I’d found on Google’s Myrtle Beach pet-friendly hotel list. It seems they corrected that listing last week. I have a photo for court if needed, and I’ll pursue the matter if I don’t get the full refund. They kept my $330. I was also hit with deposits and other charges that hadn’t been disclosed before booking: $100-$250 per day for the room, $15 for a remote, $15 for a key, plus nonrefundable parking at $15 per day. I would never have booked this place if I’d known about those rules and fees. I believe this is a scam and that the hotel should be shut down. I saw more than 30 complaints about similar issues on the hotel site, and no one raised the deposits before I booked. Bad business and a nasty place all around. Don’t come here.
For what we paid, it was a great deal: $310 for four nights and five days. We did have to leave a $250 refundable deposit. They returned $225 the morning after checkout, taking $25 for cleaning. The pool was nice, though there weren’t many other amenities, and they nearly wouldn’t let us stay because I’m 20 and my guest is 18. That seemed odd, but it worked out. The sink water smelled off, though I’m not sure the hotel could control that. The people were kind. The man we texted brought pillows, an extra blanket, and toilet paper when we needed it. The younger woman at the desk and her mom were nice too. We’ll definitely come back. Some of the reviews surprise me. At this price, were people expecting the Ritz Carlton? We had a wonderful stay.
This is the only place I book for my annual beach trip. I’ve stayed here two years in a row, and they’ve made major improvements. The rooms are cleaner than any I’ve seen there, and there wasn’t a single roach or bedbug. I don’t know why people are posting such negative things. The staff are wonderful, it’s peaceful and cozy, and they’re quick to help with what I need or fix a problem. The location is great and the price is easy on the pocket. I’ll keep coming back every year and won’t stay anywhere else.
