Owens' Motel

We had a great time during our five-night stay at Owens, and I felt very safe traveling with children. It’s an older hotel, but very clean and in a great location. Mary, the manager, is extremely friendly and kind. We’ll definitely stay here again!

Getting to the beach from this motel means climbing over a sand dune, with no steps or anything, which was quite an adventure. The pool was extremely dirty, so I wouldn’t get in. The ice machines are broken, and you have to cross the street to get ice. The toilet also runs constantly, leaking and refilling all night and day. It’s very retro, but the room needs a major overhaul. The microwave looked like one of the first ever made. The place is extremely overpriced: I paid $166 a night, when I could’ve gotten a room at Hampton Inn in Corolla for $129 a night in a much better area. I found that out too late, my fault for not checking. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this place unless you’re a fisherman who doesn’t care much about the room.

The staff are super nice, and the rooms are much more soundproof than at any other motel I’ve stayed in. My efficiency room was very clean, though it definitely needs some TLC. For what summer nights cost, I think they could do more in the off-season to bring the building up to current code. They also own Owens Restaurant across the street. It’s beautiful and has excellent food. They should make the motel as nice as the restaurant.

The room was clean, but the bathroom was tiny. The toilet area was so cramped I had to rest my arm on the roll. Paint was peeling, the molding was in bad shape, and the refrigerator was rusty. Getting onto the beach meant climbing over a large mound of sand, which was difficult. They should dig it out and put down some wood. Sorry, but I won’t stay here again.
