The Capitol Hotel Downtown, an Ascend Collection Hotel

The room wasn’t fancy, but it was clean, updated, and very comfortable. Being able to walk into downtown and the Broadway area was a real plus, and the price was a great value compared with the other options we saw. Jaylen and the rest of the staff were upbeat and friendly, and helped us with whatever we needed.

The location worked really well for going out on Broadway, and parking was a reasonable $30. The lobby is very nice, and the staff there were incredibly kind. The room itself was clean enough, though the setup felt more like a covered motel than a hotel: you leave the lobby, cross the parking area to the elevator, then walk along an outdoor hallway to your room. Breakfast was perfectly acceptable, with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, a pancake machine, and the usual continental items, but it was bland. The oddest part was the sliding barn style bathroom door. It covers the doorway but leaves a big gap, so sounds and smells get into the sleeping area. I also couldn’t find a switch for the bathroom fan and don’t think it worked.

I chose “Book now, pay later,” and the hotel still charged my card more than 24 hours after I’d canceled. I had canceled within the allowed period and received written confirmation, yet they charged $669.40 for two nights and are refusing to refund it. The facts are clear to me, so this feels like they’re refusing to follow their own policy, not like a misunderstanding or system error. It feels like a robbery. Their replies have been dismissive and unprofessional despite the documentation, and I’ve lost any trust I had in them. This was a horrible experience. If you care about honest, transparent service, I wouldn’t book here. Keep a close eye on your card and be ready to fight to get your money back if there’s a problem.

Rondarius and Dj were great to work with. I wasn’t ready for valet and had to sort through my things to make sure I had everything, and they were patient, kind, and careful while helping me. Five stars for them.
