The whole stay was frustrating, and I wouldn’t recommend it. We ended up in three different rooms, and each one had problems. In the first cabin, we found what appeared to be a bed bug. I tried calling the front desk, but nobody picked up, so I drove about two miles there to report it and ask for another room. I’ve included a photo of the bug. The next room didn’t seem properly cleaned: the floors were dirty, there was thick dust and debris behind the furniture, the bathtub was visibly dirty, and the water was disgusting. The third room still had heavy dust and dirt behind the furniture, and a hole punched in the bathroom door. We’d booked a king bed but were downgraded to a queen. Whenever something went wrong, I called first and got no answer. Each time, I had to drive about two miles to the front desk to get help. With the cleanliness problems, the bed bug concern, and the poor service, this was stressful instead of the family getaway we’d planned. Photos are included of the bug, the damaged door, and the dirty tub. For a place advertising itself as a family resort, the cleanliness, maintenance, and customer service were extremely disappointing.

The cabin was decent, if a little outdated, but almost everything else about our overnight mid-winter break at Double JJ with my son and two of his friends was a letdown. We planned to go snow tubing, and I understand weather can close the hill. What bothered me was that I asked three employees, including someone the same day, and each time they said it would be open. We only found out it was shut down when we got there. The mini golf was hard to enjoy too. It’s above the water park, and the heat felt like a sauna. All of us got overheated and couldn’t finish the game, and several of us felt light-headed. At the water park, the lazy river was low, sand and dirt were in every pool and gathered in the river’s corners, and paint was peeling throughout. The indoor/outdoor hot tub had a gross film on it, with leaves, dirt, and debris outside. The tiny adults-only tub was filthy and so discolored it looked unsanitary. The buffet at the main restaurant was bad for the price. The eggs were overcooked, the sausage rubbery, and the tater tots stale. Pastries and yogurt were about the only things worth eating, and that’s not saying much. Between the park’s condition, the stifling mini golf area, the food, and the misinformation, this wasn’t the getaway we hoped for. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Giving it 2 stars because my grand daughter had fun. Pizza was really good too. The water park was ok, but needs repainting and a cleanup. The place feels like it was great in the 80s and has been falling apart since. Service was so bad that nobody could give us useful information. The shuttle person wasn’t on duty on Sunday, the day before memorial Day. We’d planned for me to rent E-bikes while my wife and grand daughter went horseback riding, but the person handling E-bike rentals wasn’t there or had called off. So nobody could rent bikes and use the 25 miles of trails. The arcade had around 30 games, but maybe 17 worked. We wasted tokens on broken games that weren’t labeled “out of order,” and the games were garbage anyway. The foosball table was missing handles, and the foosball and air hockey tables were broken and out of order. The workers’ rules change every day. There’s a nerdy blonde kid with glasses who spazzes out a lot, but at least he’s doing his job. I worry the place will become unsafe in the next few years with kids they hire who don’t give a crap about anything. Someone could get seriously hurt and the place could be shut down.

I paid for the room online, then arrived and had to wait while they said it might not even be clean. They blamed the timing of my reservation, but shouldn’t rooms be cleaned every morning? The manager pretty much blamed me. They wasted our time checking the room, so we missed the water park on our first night. I’d spent a lot of money to bring my kiddos here. The room was terrible and I’m not sure it was clean. The lamp and door frame were broken, and the tub wouldn’t hold water. At the water park, an older guy checking bags was very rude and dug through my clothes aggressively. I understand checking bags, but come on. It was way overpriced for the quality, from the customer service to the crappy rooms.

The staff were wonderful, attentive and kind, especially at the breakfast buffet. I really enjoyed the water park too, even though it was a little outdated and rundown. But why was there no hot water in the bathrooms? I tried to shower inside the park and got freezing water, like we were outside. If the pool is warm, the running water should be too. The property is beautiful, especially the forest around the farm. My main issue was our cabin. I woke up four times in one night because I was so cold, even wearing two layers. The blankets were thin and so were the walls. We had the heat set to 70, but the temperature barely got above 50. Those blankets just weren’t enough for a Michigan winter. If you’re staying in this kind of weather, I’d recommend the hotels.
