My birthday weekend at Ghost Light Inn and Stella was meant to be relaxing, but it became a chaotic, expensive mess. The worst part happened with the car: we left our brand-new BMW with the hotel and valet, and it came back with the rear door window wide open overnight during a snow and rain storm. The seats, panels, and rest of the interior were soaked. Staff offered no explanation, just confusion and apologies that seemed annoyed we’d asked. We filed a police report because someone needed to take it seriously. Dinner at Stella was unpleasant too. Our waiter, Brendan, greeted us without much enthusiasm, which surprised me after seeing the previous day’s social media post calling him exceptional. The entrées tasted good, but at $45 I expected more than what felt like an appetizer as a main course. After my husband had two Stella beers and I’d had two cocktails, drinks that wouldn’t get a toddler tipsy, we tried to order dessert and one last drink. We were cut off abruptly with no explanation, though we hadn’t even been there an hour. When my husband asked why, staff said they’d call the police on him. It was hostile and, in my opinion, wildly unprofessional. This was one of the worst hospitality failures I’ve experienced. They turned a birthday weekend into a 24-hour disaster. If your celebration, peace of mind, or car matters to you, I’d avoid Stella and Ghost Light Inn.

The concierge was really helpful, and the hotel is right in the center of town near restaurants, shops, and the market. It’s a beautiful little place on the water. Being small suited our family of four, including babies, perfectly while we visited peddlers village and rode the New Hope Santa train. We booked last minute on a Tuesday in December because another local hotel was gross. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful snowy visit, with a river view from our room and lots of thoughtful details around the guest house. The bed was cozy, the bathroom was nice, and there were comfortable chairs. Breakfast was good, and it was easy to walk around. On our first night we went to Ferry Market and loved it. Hotel guests get 10% off there, which is a nice perk. The next day we ate onsite with friends and loved the menu. The Brussels sprouts were the best!

We had a fantastic August visit, though evenings outside can be buggy since it’s in the woods by the river, so bring or use bug spray. My husband and I brought our very shy but well-trained terrier, and all three of us had a great time. The staff were amazing. We ate outside at Stella, where they took good care of us and served the best food we had in town. The pup portion was huge, lol. In the morning, you can head down to watch sunrise, have breakfast in a chair, and feed the ducks on the Delaware. The nights were around 60° and days around 85°.

We stayed in carriage house room 13, which was very nice for two people and has just one bedroom. The location is great, but a few things didn’t work: the coffee machine wouldn’t brew a pot, the light on the large makeup mirror was out, and the garbage disposal was broken. They provide a continental breakfast, though on weekdays it doesn’t start until 7:30, which I think is too late.
