For now, Madame Isabelle's House is a great place to stay in New Orleans and worth the price. The team is kind and helpful, and Felix and Sophia know all sorts of fun things to do. They even get guests doing things together, including fun gatherings like jambalaya night. The co-ed room had several bunks, but still felt cozy rather than cramped, with a lovely atmosphere. Bring your own lock for the provider lockers, though. Other guests may take your things, even if a poltergeist tearing through paper bags and stealing incense sticks would be a more interesting explanation. I also don't know if the owner will keep the hostel in good shape. Buying a Cybertruck in New Orleans' hot, humid climate doesn't make me confident he's very forward-thinking.
The backyard and patio feel like a welcome oasis after New York City, and the people are really friendly. Guests sometimes coordinate outings, but you can also keep to yourself and enjoy the place. I had lunch with another political scientist, talked literature with someone, and chatted in Portuguese about finance with a Brazilian woman. It's easy to meet people between exploring the city. Staff made a group jambalaya meal while we were there, and Felix took us dancing one night. There's laundry on site, and breakfast in the morning is good. Joyeux!
I always stay at madame isabelles when I come to New Orleans. The staff are amazing and accommodating, and the dorms and rooms are consistently tidy and clean. The kitchen is clean too, and there's a music room, library, outdoor hangout area, and hot tub. The other guests are always good people, and I feel safe there. They also hold get-togethers and activities for guests. Definitely my favorite spot!
Maria was really on top of everything and kept the house running smoothly, truly its backbone. Felix, Sophia, and Alex were fun and friendly too. The house is cute and cozy, and the beds were very comfortable. I enjoyed the hot tub and sitting on the porch overlooking the lush back patio. It's an easy walk to the French quarter, and there are bus routes nearby. I had a great stay, would highly recommend and come back!
The location was phenomenal, and I would absolutely stay there again. Since this was my first hostel, take my thoughts with a grain of salt, but I found it cute and quaint, clean, and had everything I needed for the night. It has character. I do wish the dorm bunk curtains covered the end and the beds had better ladders.
