Roami at St. Helene

A little gem in New Orleans, with quaint charm and a great location. Bourbon Street was easy to reach on foot, but our nights were peaceful without noise. The staff responded promptly and handled our requests quickly, which made the stay much easier. The hotel was clean too, and we loved relaxing by the pool. Highly recommend!

The location was the one good thing, with lots of places easy to get to. I really wasn't happy with the room. I'd stick with a hotel chain.

Being right in the French Quarter in such an old building made for a distinctive stay. If you want the historic feel, it may suit you; anyone after something modern should look elsewhere. We paid accordingly, I guess, but the room was cramped and filthy, and it needs much more attention. I did like the building's history and how close it was to everything we wanted to see. The location is hard to beat: Jackson Square, Cafe Dumond, and the Mississippi River were a block away, as was Bourbon St. Most French Quarter sights were an easy walk, and other attractions were a quick drive. The courtyard pool was pleasant, though it could use more decoration and care. Our room was dirty when we arrived. The rug hadn't been vacuumed and the sheets and pillowcases were stained, so we were glad we'd brought our own. The rug had to be folded aside to open the door. A support leg was sticking out of the broken bed, the shower was missing one glass door and the remaining one seemed ready to come loose, and the sink was very wobbly.

I booked Roami at St. Helene through Booking.com, where the price and cancellation terms were confirmed. Later, the property charged my card more, saying new ownership meant a new rate, and replaced the cancellation terms with much stricter ones than I had accepted. I contacted Roami customer service twice. Both times I was told someone would look into it and call me back, including management, but nobody followed up. They didn't honor the booking terms and gave me no real support or accountability. I'd be very cautious about booking with Roami. It felt dishonest to change prices and policies after the reservation was made.
