Cabana Hotel Yankee Stadium

We were in the room less than an hour when a bed bug crawled out and bit me. My fiancee and I checked the bed crevices and found a nest in the bedboard. When we told the front desk receptionist, she was rude and insensitive. We'll never stay here again, and I'd take this hotel off my list.

This was one of the worst hotel stays I've had. The room was unsanitary when we arrived, with blood on the floor, food on the bed, and signs of bedbugs. We couldn't stay, especially with our one-year-old child. The front desk acknowledged the problem, and we contacted Booking.com from the property right away. Even with written confirmation that a refund would be processed, more than a month of back-and-forth went nowhere. I only got the money back after escalating through my credit card company. Future guests should be cautious and inspect rooms carefully before accepting them. Health and safety standards shouldn't be compromised.

I'm staying at Hotel Cabana in the Bronx now, and I'm disappointed. The cigarette smell is strong throughout the room and makes it hard to breathe at times. I have my 4-year-old son with me, so the air quality makes this feel like an unsafe, uncomfortable place for a child. The room looks okay at first, but the cleanliness and upkeep don't hold up once you're in it. It feels like a temporary stop, not somewhere to relax, and the staff were argumentative instead of helpful. Service didn't improve things. 1/10, I wouldn't recommend it, especially for families with kids.

The woman who checked us in was kind, and the room was at least clean enough to sleep in. It was dirty and sketchy, as you'd expect from a cheap NYC hotel, but I didn't see bugs, which was my main cleanliness worry. Those weren't the reason for my one-star rating. I asked more than a week before arrival for a handicap accessible room and was told that wouldn't be a problem and I'd be on the first floor. Instead, we got the second floor. During our three-night stay I had to climb stairs every time we went out or came back, while wearing a walking boot and supposed to be using crutches. The two handicap parking spots were also occupied each night by cars without handicap placards, so I couldn't use either one. And every time we returned, our key wouldn't work, leaving us locked out and unable to get to our things. There was writing all over the walls, stuff in the mini fridge, sticky floors, and the place was clearly used for sex work. It was very run down, and they don't seem to clean anything. I probably would have given it at least three stars despite the cheap-hotel condition if it weren't for the accessibility promise, the parking, and the key problems.
