The rooms are on the small side, like most in NYC, though I’ve stayed in smaller ones. Mine was clean, quiet, comfortable, and had a recently renovated bathroom. The maid left slippers and a couple of bottles of water. The hotel was an easy 5-10 minute walk from Grand Central, even with my roller and backpack, and check-in was super quick. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and attentive, a big difference from the large chains. The area is nice. The Wheeltapper pub is two doors down and also has an entrance from the hotel lobby. It’s a loud Irish pub and restaurant with good energy if that’s your thing. I went out early for coffee since the restaurant wasn’t open, and asked the man at the front desk if he wanted one. He said he doesn’t drink coffee, then called me over and gave me a Dunkin Donuts gift card, exactly where I was headed. Five stars for that alone! I’d never been here before, but I’ll be back.

The older character of the lobby decor gave our stay a fun feel, and we liked that more than a cookie-cutter branded hotel. It’s a fun, safe location with lots of restaurants nearby and an easy walk to Grand Central. We stayed October 12-14 2025, in a spacious room with two queen beds. It had plenty of room to walk around, ample desk space, tasteful, sophisticated decor, a great bathroom, windows with a view, and was very clean. It was comfortable for our family of four, including kids aged 16 and 12. Customer service was amazing. The hotel was short staffed, so our room was about two hours late, but everyone was incredibly helpful and polite. They made up for the wait with a free dinner for four, including drinks, and a large discount on the room. The original price was fair for what we got, and with the discount it was an incredible deal.

The hotel has a lot of charm and a great location, though there’s some wear and tear around the edges that didn’t concern us. The staff were great, especially Brendan at the front desk. We had a couple of issues, but the team promptly did more than enough to make up for them. We’d definitely stay again on a trip to New York.

We walked an average of eight miles a day and found places we hadn’t managed to see on earlier trips to New York. It was freezing, but we still made the most of each day and can’t wait to return. New Year’s in NYC was amazing, as always. This was our third visit and our second stay at the Fitzpatrick, and we couldn’t fault a thing. The hotel staff and the team at the Wheeltapper are second to none and work tirelessly to make each stay special. Natasha, we loved your stories and how easy it was to chat with you. Phoebe at the front desk, thanks for the complimentary drinks, they were welcome after a long journey. Jesus, the driver recommended by the Fitzpatrick, was every bit as good as people said. We’ll use him for airport transfers next time. Housekeeping were thoughtful, attentive, and always ready to help. Nothing was too much trouble. We hope to see you all again soon.

I asked for a quiet room away from the elevator and was put right next to it. The staff were friendly, but not very competent. They also said a charge was for incidentals when it was actually the NY resort fee. Since I was traveling for business, I now have to jump through hoops to get it refunded through our third-party vendor. The rooms and their furniture and decor are outdated, scratched, and worn. Nice people and a decent location, but I won’t stay again.
