Holiday Inn Express Jamaica - JFK AirTrain - NYC by IHG

When storms cancelled our flight, this clean, quiet hotel near JFK became a reasonably priced refuge for two nights. The room was a little small, but had everything we needed and sat at the quiet end of the hall. The location was perfect, right by the Air Train, the E, and other stations, so we could easily get into Manhattan for a rainy walk. Breakfast was amazing: scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, biscuits, and cranberry juice. They kept it well stocked, and we didn't miss the orange juice. We were even comfortable spending an hour or so lounging in the breakfast area when the rain made exploring inconvenient. For this price, it was the best hotel stay I've ever had. Many thanks to the people running this location.

The rooms were dirty, the hotel was noisy and disorganized, and the way management handled it felt dishonest. The first room looked as if the previous guest were still living there, and the second one was also dirty and unacceptable. Since they couldn't offer a quieter room with two beds, I asked for two separate rooms on the quieter side, which seemed reasonable after all we'd already dealt with. They acted as if that was too much to ask. I lost a lot of time and eventually asked an employee to inspect rooms with me because nobody seemed to check them before assigning them. They said there were no available rooms with two beds, making the whole thing more frustrating. I asked for a refund and was refused. The manager never spoke to me, despite being told they'd call me back. Nobody did. I later learned the hotel told IHG that the manager had already spoken with me, which was false. Management avoids accountability and seems not to care once it has your money. Don't trust this hotel. I strongly recommend staying somewhere else.

I missed my flight and found this hotel in a very convenient spot, about a five-minute walk from the Jamaica AirTrain station. The hotel itself was very good, the staff were nice, and breakfast was included. I wouldn't recommend walking from the station at night, though. The people using drugs and doing other things on the street made it feel a bit scary.

I left feeling uneasy and dissatisfied. I noticed what seemed to be an unfamiliar device in the room, plus signs that the space might have been tampered with before I arrived. I reported my concerns to the authorities but got no clear explanation or resolution. There were also odd noises from the fire alarm fixture, and the room generally didn't feel properly inspected or prepared. At around $200 a night, I expected better maintenance, professionalism, security, and reassurance. The hotel has basic amenities, including continental breakfast, and easy airport access, but the ongoing disturbance while I tried to rest made the price hard to justify. I would advise others to be cautious and consider whether the cost matches the comfort provided, especially given my concern about being recorded by hotel staff and my lack of confidence that the hotel could make the room comfortable.
