We are demanding a full refund for all spa and restaurant charges from October 18th, plus compensation for the distress and the ruined 40th birthday celebration for my daughter. We expect a written plan within 48 hours. If this is not resolved appropriately, we will escalate to the New York State Department of Consumer Protection and the Better Business Bureau, and seek a credit card chargeback for services not delivered as described. A simple apology is no longer enough. We paid for a premium experience at Élysée's Hotel & Spa for this family milestone on Saturday, October 18th. The result was deeply disappointing. An insufficient phone call afterward offered no solution, genuine apology, or action. On arrival, reception was dismissive and made us feel like an inconvenience. The spa treatment called a “massage” was just oil and sugar applied in a basic way, and it caused an uncomfortable allergic skin reaction. The mandatory 20% gratuity for subpar, rude service felt insulting, as we had to pay extra despite being unhappy. Although we had clearly explained the celebration, it was ignored. Restaurant service was disorganized, with a salad inexplicably arriving late alongside the main course. We were also required to sign a waiver giving up the right to take legal action over poor service. That was alarming and, to us, suggested an effort to avoid accountability. The lack of a meaningful response afterward makes us feel this was not an isolated incident, but a reflection of management’s culture. The staff member involved seems to have faced no consequences, while the hotel continues to profit from what we consider deceptive practices. We trusted the hotel with an important occasion, and it was ruined.

The Library on the second floor has a simple self-serve breakfast, morning papers, and lovely chairs. Right next door is Monkey Bar, one of the hotel’s high-quality restaurant options. We also appreciated the distinctive valet parking and the excellent Midtown location. This is our favorite hotel in Manhattan, with old-world charm and the feel of a European hotel. The staff were friendly and attentive without exception. We wouldn’t book anywhere else!

I’ve been traveling to NY for 25 years and have never stayed in such a terrible, unfriendly hotel. I spent a week there and paid 3500 Dollar for awful service. Reception staff were rude and unprofessional. They forgot my wake-up calls and didn’t arrange my airport taxi. When I asked for things, they either ignored me, ate while I was speaking, or didn’t listen. Staff didn’t communicate with each other, so I had to repeat every request to everyone. The elevator, internet, and phone didn’t work either, and we ran out of hair dryers and shower caps. My room was dark and very noisy. Never again.

The club floor snacks and drinks were a lovely perk, and the place has that old-fashioned charm with service to match. We’ve stayed here a bunch of times and keep loving it. The rooms are spacious and clean, with really comfortable beds, and you can walk to the theater, museums, and Central Park. This time we even got a complimentary suite upgrade. Now if only I could win the lottery and live here.

The service was very good, and the room was quiet enough that I never heard the neighbors. Maybe the older building helps. It’s also close to several trains, so getting to south Manhattan or Queens was easy. Breakfast was pastries, which were good, plus fruit and snack bars. They kept snacks and drinks available all day, which was a nice surprise. The bed was comfortable, and the fairly flat pillow suited me as a stomach sleeper. The decor feels stuck in the 90s or earlier. There’s no ice machine, so they had to bring ice to the room, which I’m not used to.
