Ramada by Wyndham Flushing Queens

The staff made a rough travel day much easier. My wife and I were on standby, but a storm caused widespread cancellations. After about six hours at the airport and several unsuccessful flight attempts, we were exhausted and booked a room around 5 PM. Chris and Jimmy at the front desk checked us in quickly and smoothly, and even gave us local food suggestions. The freshly cleaned first room smelled strongly of cleaning products, which made my wife, who is very sensitive to odors, feel nauseous. Chris and Jimmy took us seriously, apologized, and immediately moved us to a room on another floor. They upgraded us to a slightly larger unit without hesitation. We only needed the room for a few hours before a 3:30 AM departure, so their kindness meant a lot after such a difficult day. Both rooms were spacious, thoughtfully designed, and appeared recently renovated. We’d absolutely stay here again when visiting Flushing, NY.

Sherman and Aaron at the front desk were friendly, patient, and professional. They answered my questions, helped with everything I needed, and made check-in easy and stress-free. Their warm manner made me feel welcome throughout my stay. Thanks to them, the experience was even better.

There are plenty of places to eat nearby, and the hotel is close to shopping. The stay was decent, and we had planned to return in the spring. After we left, though, we were charged $50 for “property damage” to two hand towels. We’d used them to clean up an accidental coffee spill caused by my three-year-old, because we wanted to take care of it instead of leaving it for housekeeping. Be careful about any mess or stain, even an accidental one, as they may charge you.

The hotel is safe, clean, and fine for a night’s sleep, as long as you set your expectations. It’s a Ramada in the Chinese part of Flushing, not the Hilton Bomonti in Istanbul. The arrival area reminded me of the scene outside the hotel in 'Coming to America'. It caters to Chinese guests but is accessible to everyone. My room was spacious, the sheets weren’t stained, and the towels were fluffy, though I found a couple hairs on them. I’m a guy, so it didn’t bother me. The AC and heat unit was loud, but it worked as brown noise against outside sounds. You’re directly under the flight path into LGA. The slipper kits are no longer provided, which is a shame. The shower was hot and strong, and the clear shampoo works as body wash too, so you don’t have to make do with the little Dove bar. Breakfast downstairs had an Asian focus, and the congee with toppings was very good. They’ll hold your luggage while you explore or head to JMart before your flight. The morning front desk staff were friendly. The late-night crew seemed a bit shell-shocked, understandable given the locked doors and checks before letting people in. I’d come back, though they need to do a better job cleaning.
