Sankofa Aban Bed and Breakfast

Debbie told me she'd give me a true New York City living experience, and that's exactly what happened. She and Eric knew so much about the neighborhood's history and treated me like family. The jazz shows were amazing, too. Staying at Sankofa Aban made me feel like I was helping keep that wonderful history alive. I'm glad I chose it over a hotel.

For my first trip to NY, I couldn't have picked a better place. Debbie is such a lovely host and made me feel at home, almost like I was visiting a relative. Her home is cozy, and the intimate weekend jazz concerts were the cherry on top. They gave me a little trip into Bed Stuy history.

The Green room on the top floor was spacious and beautiful, right by the bathroom. This old house is gorgeous and full of history, and I felt at home as soon as I arrived. I was given tips on nearby food, and Peaches was great, thanks! I came at the start of the week, so both the house and neighborhood were calm and quiet. There aren't many outlets because the house is old, so bear that in mind if you have lots to plug in. I expected that, so it didn't bother me. I don't know why some people call the neighborhood bad. It was lovely and quiet for a city, and I felt safe walking alone at night. Before checkout I had a great conversation with the owner, who was incredibly kind. I could've kept chatting, but I would've missed my train. I hope I can catch the weekend live jazz next time.

We found Sankofa Aban just right for our visit with family and friends in Bed-Stuy before a wedding in Boston. It's on a peaceful street of lovely brownstones, only a short walk from the train. The period character comes through in the building and furnishings, with lots of detail, and everything is beautifully maintained. Debbie's breakfasts were delicious, and she and Eric made us feel welcome right away. We had to leave before one of the jazz nights, which I regret. We'll plan for one next time.
