The Standard East Village

We ended up leaving and finding another hotel because we no longer felt comfortable staying there. It was meant to be a special Valentine’s weekend for my partner and me, and the check-in experience was upsetting. The front desk woman seemed irritated and was very rude. She said our reservation had been canceled without a clear explanation, claiming they had tried to contact us through Expedia and by phone. We got no notice or missed calls until the next day, after we arrived. We’d booked three weeks ahead and Expedia had confirmed it, so this was shocking. When we calmly asked what had happened, she dismissed us and made it feel like our fault, with no real effort to help. We were told staying that night would cost more than double our original booking. We felt completely unwelcome. Would stay away, definitely don’t recommend.

The doorman was lovely, and the other women at the desk seemed nice, but our check-in for a staycation with my fiance was a real disappointment. The woman helping us was rude, abrupt, and seemed annoyed that we’d booked with Capital One points. She told us nothing about the hotel or its offerings, didn’t explain that you have to swipe your key card to use the elevator, and didn’t look into a room upgrade, which is also a Capital One member benefit. I’d read so many reviews praising the welcoming staff and expected it to be wonderful. The room view wasn’t great either. I’ll look elsewhere next time.

The Standard East Village had exactly the friendly team that made our delayed honeymoon feel special. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely warm. They surprised us with bagels and mimosas delivered to our room, a thoughtful gesture that made our day. The hotel itself is stylish and has a great vibe, and the café and restaurant are nice places to hang out. A gym across the street was very convenient. Fantastic stay and outstanding staff.

Kershel and the team made our NYC visit for my girlfriend's birthday feel special. They brought us champagne and chocolate covered strawberries when they found out what we were celebrating, and Kershel helped us check in as soon as the room was ready, even though we arrived early. The room’s view is incredible too. We’re so glad we chose The Standard east village and would highly recommend it for the rooms and hospitality.
