The Court - A St Giles Hotel

It’s really uncomfortable here. There are rats all over the building, the workers are rude, and they talk about you to other residents and employees. Workers also get intimate with residents.

The location was the only good part of this stay. This is not the 4 star hotel it’s advertised as: the lobby is small, the front desk seems understaffed, and the rooms are older and dim. Our first room’s AC didn’t work; after staff tried to fix it, the electric fuse kept tripping, so they moved us. The AC worked in the new room, but the toilet wouldn’t flush, and maintenance had to come up. He said the building plumbing is old. Later, the tub barely drained, leaving us standing in four inches of water while showering. We were very dissatisfied, but the hotel refused to refund us or cancel the stay, so we could have booked somewhere else. Pay a little more and get a much better hotel.

The mattress and pillows were great, and I slept well. We could even see the Chrysler Building from our room, though the dirty, grimy windows made it hard to enjoy. The place is old, dated, and tired. I’d never stayed in NYC before and expected it to cost more, so I suppose it’s a budget hotel. At least we had a bug-free place to sleep and shower. The online description bore little resemblance to reality; it was basic and plain. For some reason we were “upgraded” to a two room suite, but only one room had decor. There was a huge velvet-covered headboard, and with my dust allergy I’m pretty sure that and the old carpet contributed to my sinus flare-up. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned properly, so we called to have it cleaned after the maids had already been through.

We only stayed because we got a great deal, and we won’t return despite the good prices. The room had plenty of space, but needed a thorough cleaning. My husband and I were both grossed out by the stained, old carpeting and the general wear on the furniture. With new carpeting and a proper clean, this hotel could be spectacular.
