U Hotel Fifth Avenue

The rooms were the best part, a really comfortable place to relax. Service was attentive, and the location made getting around easy. U Hotel Fifth Avenue was a very good experience and a solid choice if you want nice rooms and good service.

The location was the real draw, and we could see the empire state from our window. The guy at reception was lovely and helped us get a kettle. But it was much noisier than we expected: outside noise carried even up on the 6th floor, and the walls were so thin we could hear everyone else on our floor. We barely slept well. The toilet door also kept catching on the sink because the room was so small. There was construction work, and the hotel gave no notice or apology. The sheets seemed to be just two sheets wrapped around a duvet, and they came apart every night. I worried I might be touching something that hadn’t been cleaned between guests. I wouldn’t stay again apart from the location.

We walked into a construction zone, and it was the worst hotel lobby I’ve seen. The shower looked gross, there was blue painter’s tape on the nightstand, and the paint job was sloppy. I don’t know how this place has 4 stars. Please avoid.

If sleep matters to you, avoid room 209 and avoid booking. I reserved five nights for the central location and the good reviews, but the second-floor room had no insulation and all the traffic from 5th Ave came through. I couldn’t sleep there. They wouldn’t change my room and offered earplugs instead, so I cancelled and booked somewhere else. The cancellation fee was 100%. Thanks for nothing.
