Hilton Garden Inn Newport News

The room was clean, but the service left a lot to be desired. My child broke a glass, so I called for help cleaning it up. Someone left a vacuum at the door. It was a jar of pickles. I asked whether they had anything cleaner to help with the mess, and a guy brought me a rag and bleach-based Tilex. He left without offering any help. Breakfast was $15 per person, and the two bottles of water and Keurig supplies cost about $5 if you use them. I’ve never been charged for those before. Now I’m just sitting here waiting to see what other charges start rolling in. Find another hotel.

The rooms are comfortable and quiet, and the staff were friendly and glad to help with questions. Getting on and off the highway is easy, with stores and restaurants close by. There are lots of places to stay around Newport News, and this one is convenient.

We barely slept, and the next day we were meant to go back to Busch Gardens. I booked one night with my young daughter and her friend, and after returning from the park we could hear light conversation through the adjoining room. Later, the girls woke me because the sounds from next door were very clear, including moaning and other noises. It was disgusting and upsetting that two young girls had to hear that. I called the desk. They said they could phone the other room, but we heard the phone ring as if it were in ours. Things went quiet briefly, then the neighbors turned their TV up loudly. I called again and nothing changed. At checkout, I was offered free breakfast, even though breakfast was already included, and told the person on duty that night should have done more. She also said I should avoid booking an adjoining room next time. I had no choice over room assignment, and the hotel should have installed a suitable door if this was going to be a problem. This is a HILTON Problem!

The room was spotless, with no dust, hair, or mold, and the staff were courteous and sincere throughout. I came with my best friend and our pup for a much-needed break, and check-in was easy. We liked it so much that we added a second night. Everyone at the front desk was kind and helpful, and seemed to care about making us comfortable. This is our go-to whenever we're in the Hampton area. Thank you all for such a lovely stay!
