Newport Marriott Hotel & Spa

We went in with low expectations after reading the negative reviews, but the staff and amenities really impressed us. The front desk team were friendly and helpful, the gym was great, and we enjoyed the breakfast buffet. There are water bottle filling stations throughout the hotel, too. My wife and I had a wonderful couples massage at the spa. The lounge was closed, but they gave me a $10 restaurant or bar credit and free breakfast vouchers. We also used the complimentary wine and beer tasting coupons for Newport Vineyard/Winery. Self parking was free, presumably because it was the off season, so we didn’t pay the valet fee. Based on other reviews, I called ahead as a Platinum Elite member and made sure we got a room with an outside view. Otherwise, your window might look into a hallway or the lobby.

We came to celebrate our wedding, and even though it was a brief stay, Ted at the front desk went above and beyond to make it feel special. The whole team made us feel cared for from the moment we arrived. Our room was spotless and well maintained, with lovely water views. We also had a couples massage at the spa and came away relaxed and refreshed. A wonderful place to unwind and mark an important occasion. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay at Newport Marriott Hotel & Spa.

Most rooms look inward toward the hallways or elevator lobby instead of outside. When I opened the blinds on arrival, someone waiting for the elevator was right there, and we both startled each other. The layout is hard to navigate, with so many turns that the floors feel like a maze. The elevators were a little slow, though I was there for a conference, so I understand. Even with those quirks, I’ll definitely come back. The location is beautiful, the team was lovely, and Theo was friendly and efficient at check-in. Room service chocolate ganache cake was delicious. There’s a spacious free parking garage next door, and valet is available for a nominal fee.

The location is great and the property itself is nice, but the hospitality didn’t meet Marriott standards, especially on our anniversary. At breakfast in MainSail, the hotel’s on-site Marriott restaurant, my partner asked politely before we sat down whether breakfast was complimentary. The hostess replied that we were “staying at Marriott Marriott, not a lower class hotel like Fairfield,” then asked, “So do you want to sit or not?” It felt belittling and entirely unnecessary. Management apologized later and said they’d provide coaching, but there wasn’t any meaningful resolution. They also charge $7 for an 8oz cup of Tropicana orange juice, and they didn’t honor my 2:00 PM late checkout benefit as a Gold Elite member. For a better Newport stay, I’d recommend The Brenton Hotel next door.
