The Giacomo, an Ascend Collection Hotel

The robes were a nice touch, and we stayed in the king room with a jetted tub for a much-needed couple of nights away. The hotel was the cleanest and best-smelling place we’ve ever stayed. Everyone on staff was attentive and polite. Breakfast was hot and good, with eggs, sausage, waffles, and plenty more. If something wasn’t already out, the breakfast attendant quickly got it for you. That kind of attentiveness is hard to find these days. We’ll be back.

The apartments are wonderful and the service is outstanding. For my first visit to the United States, I wanted a hotel with a great view, and Giacomo delivers. It’s one of the tallest hotels on the US side, so you get an amazing view toward the Falls, especially from the premium apartments. One apartment spans half the floor plate and gives views in almost every direction. I’d highly recommend staying here and would return if I came back to the US.

The morning staff were good, and breakfast was decent. The room itself had several problems: the TV and some lights didn’t work, the shower had calcium buildup, and the toilet wasn’t working properly. The rooms felt dated and weren’t great overall, though the bed seemed fine. Parking and signage were confusing, and the location felt odd. On check-in, there was an upsetting incident: we were given someone else’s room and walked into a dirty room with things on the bed. We got out quickly and don’t know what else was there. When we told staff, their response felt more like disbelief than an effort to fix the problem.

Walking to the river and falls was easy, they’re so close. We also appreciated the secure, locked parking. The building’s quiet, solid feel makes sense when you know it was built in 1929. The architecture is wonderful, and breakfast was great, with fresh, delicious coffee too. My husband booked The Giacomo for our anniversary, and we loved everything and everyone there. We’ll be back!
