Quality Suites Lake Wright - Norfolk Airport

I couldn’t stay because the conditions were too uncomfortable. We changed rooms twice: the first had bed bug stains on the sheets, and the second had an actual bed bug on the light fixture. On top of that, they charged me twice for the room even though I booked through a third party. When I called, they first said they had no transactions under my name. After I mentioned litigation, they found the transaction and said it was a system error. The service was terrible.

The room was spacious, the location by the outlet was fantastic, and breakfast was excellent and free. The pool wasn’t heated, and the gym was very poor quality. If you can get a good price, I’d highly recommend staying here.

We left and checked into a nearby hotel, where the difference was night and day. The next morning I was relieved to see this hotel had refunded or canceled the charges, since I’d been ready to fight any cancellation fees. After a long drive and an earlier appointment, though, the night here was miserable. Check-in was smooth and the desk staff were professional, which is why I gave two stars. Around 10 p.m. there were questionable people hanging around outside, and a couple in the lobby lounged while their toddler ran around. The hall to our first-floor room smelled strongly of weed. In the first room, my wife found a used towel with long hairs folded among the clean ones. The sheets were visibly dirty, and two pillows looked stained with lipstick and mascara. The desk offered clean linens or another room, so we tried a second room. It smelled even more of smoke, with grease and hairs on the nightstand, holes in the sheets, and signs the door had been targeted in a previous break-in. We left and were told to contact Choice Hotels about a refund. The online photos are outdated and the place looks nothing like them now. I can’t recommend it or imagine staying again. I regret not checking the Google reviews, but we were on the road and booked through the Choice Hotels app.

My daughter serves in the US Navy and had spent the day flying around the country. She ended up at the airport 13 hours before her flight, so I booked her a room to rest. The hotel refused to let her check in because she wasn’t 21, and the front desk was very rude when we explained the situation and asked them to make an exception. They didn’t even want her waiting in the lobby for a bus from another hotel. They put a Navy sailor with all her luggage out on the street. The age rule was mentioned in the fine print, but it never occurred to me to look for it. I’d never heard of that outside five-star hotels. This is the cheapest hotel in the city, while the Hilton, a thousand times nicer, picked her up and said of course she could stay. This hotel should be shut down, and the front desk employee fired.
