Super 8 by Wyndham Norfolk/Chesapeake Bay

The view and the beach just two feet away were the only reasons this earned more than one star. At $350 a night, I expected much better. The floors were sticky, with sand and dirt everywhere, and it took a lot of sweeping before I could use the room. The rooms get made up, but they don’t seem to get cleaned. Getting extra towels was a whole chase, and the housekeeper who was meant to come around 10 a.m. still hadn’t shown by almost 4 p.m. I saw her nearby, but she was on her phone each time. Very little upkeep. For that level of service, this place should cost $55.

I didn’t feel safe there at all. People lingered by our door, music played loudly late into the night, and the parking lot was full of trash. The room was nasty, with sand in the bed, hair on the sheets, and more hair in the tub and sink. The bathroom was gross.

We were only there one night and checked out the next day. Our room, #159, was clean, which surprised me after reading the reviews, and I found no signs of bed bugs. But the mirror scared me. My husband pulled the bottom away from the wall and photographed a hole behind it, so someone in the room behind us could look through. He got four sheets from the front desk and we covered it. Check the mirror and drape sheets over it. The view of the bay was gorgeous and just a few steps away, but people were hanging around outside, frying dinner and blocking our doorway until we asked them to move. There was loud music all night. People seemed to be sleeping on the ground, and the area felt scary after dark. We brought a gun. The pool was so crowded there was hardly room to swim, and I watched people come in from the road without anyone stopping them. The blankets were thin as sheets, so bring extras.

The beachside price looked good until I thought about the doctor bills I might end up with. Everything was covered in mold. I hope you don’t need to breathe. I’ve never posted photos with a review before, but I did this time. Worst hotel ever.
