Hampton Inn Charleston-North

Breakfast was a delight. Kendra was super friendly and cooked the potatoes with great color, just right for eating with your eyes. So often hotel potatoes are pale and undercooked, like at the place I stayed in Pennsylvania the day before. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for me. Check-in was quick and easy. I was surprised parking costs extra, but that's how it is. The bed was very comfortable, I slept great, and the bathroom was clean and easy to use. There's an outdoor pool, though it was a little too cool to swim. All in all, a nice hotel, and I look forward to coming back.

The hotel was fine, but I was very disappointed to be charged $14 a night for parking this far from downtown Charleston, even as a paying guest when there was plenty of parking. The fee wasn't disclosed on the website, and it feels far too high for the area. When I asked why it was necessary, the woman at the front desk was quite rude. Save the $14 a night and stay somewhere else that isn't trying to squeeze out more money.

The hot breakfast was very good, and the attendant stayed on top of refilling food and cleaning the breakfast area. The room was clean, but traffic outside and noise from the hallway inside were both easy to hear. Bring a white noise machine. I was in town for a tournament and appreciated that the staff honored my room request. They also accommodated my request for housekeeping to refill all the product bottles. The hotel is in a busy area, with several other hotels, shops, and restaurants nearby.

This has become one of my favorite hotels out of the dozen or so places I stay each month. I come to Charleston regularly, and this past week it was the best of five places I stayed while working between South GA and Charleston. The rooms are comfortable, nice, and up to date, and the service is really great. Thanks to the staff.
