Starlight Motor Inn

This little motel is going to be our regular place whenever we visit Charleston. We loved supporting a small local business, and the modern setup felt especially suited to younger travelers. The rooms have personality, with colorful decor and art that isn't the usual beach picture, plus thoughtful touches like lots of outlets, modern lighting, a noise machine, a roomy bathroom, a bright mirror, and a big shower with two shower heads. The TV had cable and Roku, which was a welcome surprise since we bring our own Roku in case a hotel's selection is bad. Check-in was easy, the room felt cozy and clean, and service was great. We didn't use the pool, but it looked clean and inviting. There's also a lounge serving alcoholic drinks. I liked being able to text the front desk if needed, and the hotel sent updates by text during our stay.

The people really made this stay. Staff were kind and accommodating, and the local folks who regularly visit the bar and coffee shop were just as lovely. I also loved the retro feel and sense of community. Being there made me feel like a girl from the 60s, and I'd happily come back. Starlight Moter Inn is adorable and very affordable. There's a pool, a lovely pool room, outdoor seating, a coffee shop with delicious drinks, and an upstairs lounge that regularly has live music. The musicians are outstanding.

The kids had plenty to enjoy here, from the pool to the basketball court and ping pong table, and there was a poolside lounge too. We also found gourmet coffee and pastries in the morning. The rooms were clean, very well stocked, and the retro look was just right. The main drawback was the loud road noise in the units at the front. We'd stay again.

From arrival to checkout, this was a great experience. The manager stayed helpful and accommodating even while things were busy, and Rick and the rest of the staff were about the friendliest hotel team I've met. When someone from housekeeping noticed me struggling with my heavy suitcase at checkout, he carried it down the stairs for me. Charleston again means this will be our motel.
