At $50 USD a night, the price is pretty good, and the location is handy if you’re heading to Davis-Besse or Toledo. There are Mexican and Italian places and a Coney Island within walking distance. Check-in was lightning fast, though it did require a $50 deposit and ID. The building feels caught between renovation and a mid-life crisis. My bed and sheets were clean, at least, and didn’t look like they’d survived a Victorian plague. The hallway had a strong cannabis smell, and the bathtub had cigarette burns. The dresser was missing a drawer, and I eventually found the room phone hiding at the bottom of the closet. The pool sign promised a pool, but the door was locked because it was “under renovation.” Lobby coffee was technically there, but it was cold and old. I ended up going to the gas station for coffee that didn’t taste like regret. I checked in Sunday afternoon and didn’t see any room service, meaning sheet changes and cleaning, until 5 pm Wednesday, after I asked about it. The place has a kind of “ghetto-chic” feel, with furniture and lobby coffee that seem more decorative than useful.

By the second day of our week-long stay, the front desk agent was telling me to leave and threatening to call the police if we weren’t out in ten minutes. We’d already paid for the week, and he said there’d be no refund. This came after he’d come to our door about twenty minutes after check-in to say people downstairs had complained we were too loud, when I’d barely unpacked. We stayed away for a few hours, and when we returned, a different employee was working. She was kind and moved us to another room, though that one was still disgusting and disappointing. What we found under the end table by the couch is hard to even post about. The room itself had plenty of problems. In the suite’s kitchen area, the sink drained straight into the cabinet and onto the floor because the pipes weren’t connected. In the shower, the head switched back to the faucet after three minutes, and I had to use a hair tie to hold the little diverter up. During the week I also got two flat tires, one from a nail in the sidewall that meant a whole new tire, and another from some plastic piece with screws I must have run over. Do not park your car there.

The rooms are sharp, with new linens and no holes in the sheets or comforters like other places around here. The staff are awesome, and Yolanda rocks. Keep doing what you’re doing, the service feels real and personal. I’ll stay until you all get tired of me.

I still don’t know whether this refund will ever happen. When I asked to speak with a manager, the front desk person said to call after 8 pm and “hopefully” the manager would be there. I’ll update the rating if the issue gets resolved, but so far I’m not sure it will. I reserved a room for a friend, and the property said they couldn’t accommodate them. They told me a refund would be issued right away, but the reservation was never cancelled and no refund was initiated. I called Priceline several times, where I’d booked, and their representatives kept sending me in circles while saying the property would issue it. The hotel said on three separate occasions yesterday that the refund was being started. When I called twice today, they said they wouldn’t refund it. Priceline then called and was allegedly told the hotel would issue it immediately. After Priceline confirmed that to me, I called the property, and they said Priceline was supposed to handle it. This is unacceptable and needs to be sorted out.

My assigned room hadn’t been cleaned by check-in, but Yolanda at the front desk was really kind and switched me to a better, cleaner one. She made me feel welcome, and the service was great. I’d recommend her to anyone staying here.
