Super 8 Norton VA

The hotel and parking lot look nice and clean, but my room smells like a cigarette ashtray even though it’s supposed to be smoke free. I’m a housekeeper, and my hotel has been smoke free for 5yrs, yet none of our rooms smell like this one. I couldn’t sleep well. I’m in town from Georgia till Saturday for my daughter’s college conference. I was looking forward to the free breakfast, but all we get is coffee. I’m not usually a breakfast person.

The bed was GREAT, and honestly this was the cleanest room I’ve had in years of traveling. The rooms aren’t fancy, but they’re very clean. The area used to be a hopping little part of town, with a very popular bar nearby. It’s a little out of the way nowadays, but still not far from anything.

The night and morning front desk staff were friendly and attentive, and the bed was pretty comfortable compared with other motels I stayed in on my trip. The first room smelled musty, the a/c didn’t work, and the curtains were hard to keep closed. I asked for another room and they accommodated me. The second one looked and smelled better, and the a/c worked, though the shades and curtains were still hard to keep closed. The place is outdated, and cracks all over the shower, wall, and bathroom floor made it feel unclean. There are no elevators, so if you can’t walk up steps, ask for a first-floor room. It’ll do for a night, but I wouldn’t want to stay longer.

We used the restroom and left right away to check into another nearby hotel. The smoke-free room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, and there was hair in the tub, so the bathroom felt unclean. I know Super 8 is a 2-star hotel and wasn’t expecting luxury, but I was still very disappointed. I’ve never had to leave a hotel and rebook somewhere else before. Definitely not the experience I expected.
