Hyatt Place Detroit/Novi

Noise came through the walls badly enough to wake us at 4:00 AM because of the next room. I appreciated the host offering another room, but moving wasn't workable since I didn't want to wake my toddler. Better sound insulation is needed for a comfortable night's sleep.

This was the worst hotel stay I've had in the United States, and really unpleasant. The room wasn't serviced, and on both nights there was no hot water for an evening shower. The walls were very thin, too. At 12:30 AM on Wednesday, the people next door were talking loudly and carrying on, so I had to switch rooms to get some sleep. I'm surprised by the higher ratings, because my experience was terrible.

I stay at the Hyatt Place in Novi often, and the rooms are always clean, breakfast is excellent, and the staff are friendly. On a recent trip, arrangements at another hotel fell through, so I reached out to the Novi team. They went above and beyond to look after me. I can't say enough about how great the staff are. Highly recommend.

We stayed January 3-4, and I left disappointed. At check-in, the attendant barely greeted us, wearing headphones and seeming to be on FaceTime or watching videos. She didn't tell us checkout time or when breakfast was served. The room was clean and pretty standard for a Hyatt, but the thermostat at the far end struggled to regulate the temperature, leaving it either freezing or extremely hot. The bedding was awful: just a top sheet and thin quilt-like blanket. We were cold all night and used bath towels for extra warmth. Breakfast was awful too. The eggs were dry and crumbly, the potatoes nearly uncooked, and everything was cold and flavorless. We took two bites and left for a restaurant because it was so gross. We'd stayed at the Holiday Inn Express down the street in recent years and regret not going back there, since we had a much better experience. I typically love Hyatt Hotels, but I wouldn't recommend this one to anyone.
