Crown Lodge Motel Oakland

I needed somewhere nearby for my tenant to stay temporarily after a kitchen fire. It’s a motel, so you get what you pay for, but the manager was polite and went out of his way to help. That made a stressful emergency a little easier, and I really appreciated it.

We arrived late and only needed somewhere to sleep, so the rooms didn’t feel worth the price. People were wandering around the motel all night, staring at us in a way that made me worry they might rob us. I was glad the non-smoking room really didn’t smell of smoke. The front desk guy was so kind and was easily the best part. This place wasn’t the best in the area, but it wasn’t the worst either.

I paid $200 for two nights and couldn’t believe the state of the place. The room was dirty, the bathroom light kept cutting in and out, and there was no microwave or refrigerator. It smelled strongly of drugs, and there was a lot of noise from people I saw using drugs and saying bad things. Someone went into my room to take out the trash while I was away. Then checkout took another 30 minutes because the office guy had fallen asleep. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The motel itself was a dump, with rooms that looked straight out of the 80s and a smell like my great-grandfather’s sick, underwear drawer. On top of that, they quoted one price, then raised it by $20 after I was already in the room. Management wouldn’t correct it when I complained, and they didn’t even charge tax. I’m pretty sure that isn’t legal. Total ripoff. Avoid this place!
